I guess it's better to keep all breads under the same subject.
this was the second bread of the project, Artos: Greek Celebration Bread

I made the variation called "Cristhopsomos" - Evelyn, please feel free to jump in and explain what the bread is all about!
it was not too hard to make, the only thing is, it makes a huge loaf, next time I would half the recipe. Also, the bread dried up way too quickly, next day I took it to the lab and even though everybody loved it, it was not as good as the previous evening

Let me get something straight here.
I am NOT the one who came up with that bread design. Oh, no. Not at all.
I would not even ATTEMPT to bake it, if it wasn't for that challenge. So..... it is NOT MY FAULT that this could be a Viagra celebration bread. I have nothing, absolutely nothing to do with it.

Fourth bread is done!
Brioche - I made the "Rich Man's Brioche" as described in the book.
First of all, if you make this bread, remember to work quickly shaping the dough, and GREASE the pans very very well.
now for the report on taste - MY GOSH THESE ARE AWESOME!!!!
I only had half of the mini-brioche - it was the closest thing to "eating a cloud" I can imagine... it melts in your mouth, it is light and luscious at the same time. Good thing I could go running today (FINALLY), so the extra fat intake should not matter too much. :-)
as for the loaf, no pictures. Not worth seeing, folks. I do hope it will taste ok.
If I knew how good the mini ones would be, I would have made all the dough in that shape.

They are 3.5 inches in diameter at the top
in one of the pictures I am holding the brioche in my hand to give some perspective on their size. I am going to post that photo here

I am in heaven just looking at the picture! Have you baked his French bread yet? I'm not sure how the challenge goes - page order? I have just made the Pate Fermentee for the French bread for tomorrow. I made it a couple months back and it was fantastic. I am salivating at the thought of home-made bread tomorrow. Can you guess that bread is my personal downfall? Sally, you are a bread goddess.

the challenge is to make the breads in the order they appear in the book, which is alphabetical
I am really enjoying doing it, but I won't drop my regular baking because sourdough is my favorite kind of bread, not only to eat, but to make.

We used this book in one of my bread classes -- loved everything (except the corn bread which, ironically is the only non-yeast recipe) we made from it. I have the anadama dough proofing now....I'll try to catch up.

Oh, I love that cornbread. It was what Peter Reinhart fixed for Julia Child's birthday dinner that was held here just before her death --the James Beard Foundation dinner. It isn't a "regular" cornbread, of course.

Isn't it funny--tastes I mean--we found it to be too much like a very rich corn pudding and were, I guess, in the mood for something more bread-like. My breads teacher loves it too--perhaps I should give it another try.

It's a good recipe--and very sweet. It is just "different". By the bye, the spoon bread that is Frank Stitt's recipe is out of sight good.

Well, yes indeedy, that is it, O miss wonderful!! ;o)
I will add that I don't think the cooking time was correct. That was the time we were doing the recipe "exactly", and I'm pretty sure I had to bake longer--or I might have put it in a deeper dish than he calls for. Anyway, it was delicious.

I think that answers my question. I am pretty sure I didn't do it in a "gratin" dish, but in a deeper casserole. NO matter. It was good. I did it with the Basque chicken (as was offered in that recipe) and it was really nice. Gotta do it again,now that I am reminded.
