CooksTalk Challenge?
How many of you noticed on page 12 of the Feb/Mar '09 issue the "Cook the Issue" challenge? I've already started but can't find anywhere on this site how this contest works. The blurb says "Post photos of what you make, tell us what you love, what you don't and what else you want to know. Cook the whole issue and you could win a cookware shopping spree." On which forum are we to post our photos/comments? How does one enter/win this contest? Does anyone know more about this than I've been able to find out? Thanks! -Heather

No I didn't notice that. honestly, I barely glanced at this issue because the new typeface is too eyestraining to read, so I flipped through and haven't gone back to really look at the content. I tried to read the editor's note but gave up.
Sad because I used to devour each new issue as soon as I got it.

I noticed that and wondered the same thing. I recall there being a mention of this "Cook the Issue" project last year, but never heard more about it. Lacking any further direction from Taunton, I would say start a thread in this folder, CooksTalk Project, with your name and the project, something like "countrygoddess Cooks Through Issue 97". Then post pics, results, comments, etc. <shrug>
But, maybe someone from Taunton will see your question and respond.

I saw it, and assumed it would become clear when the web site changes take place on the 13th.

It is also announced here on CT in the 'Feedback about Fine Cooking' section. Seems like ALOT of work, and I must agree now after looking at the new issue that the TYPEFACE is too small.

Awesome--thank you!!

Sheri is correct; when our updated web site goes live (next week) you'll find the CooksTalk challenge much more easily. In the meantime, feel free to post to it, using the link above!

I read through the latest issue, with an eye not to complaining, but seeing what I could and could not make. Actually, in the whole issue the only things I could not make (or at least eat) were the carrot cakes (I'm not a fan of nuts, but guess I could make it and give it away) and some recipe containing tofu, which I'm also not a fan of. So, might be up for this.

That actually brings up a good point: y'all shouldn't feel obligated to make the recipe exactly as printed in the magazine if you're taking this challenge. Cook from the magazine the same way as you always would: if you don't eat nuts and would normally leave them out of a cake, go ahead. You can always address in your comments how well any substitutions you make work or don't work.
Not that I need to point this out to someone whose name is synonymous with riffing on a recipe, probably! :-)

I read the first part of your reply and thought "Does she know who she's talking to???" but the last sentence reassured me. I never tamper with anything really major, though, LOL.

Wasn't so much for your benefit, but to let everyone else know!

I appreciate that, but it is nice to know!

I haven't read the exact "challenge", but is it so different from what we all seem to do --cook from the issue and post how much we like it?
