V-Fest dinner night now over... (post #56937)

...and can't believe I waited this long to go to one! Great food /greater people!
Enjoyed meeting everyone, and can't wait to see pic.s, I am fully sated, and can't believe the reactions creme fraiche elicits!
Spent most of the evening chatting, with a pleasant Swedish/German ex- flight attendant and left a little bit of my heart at the restaurant! Gotta talk her into trying lamb tho'! ;>)
Enjoyed immensely ,and many thanks to Sandra for organizing it all, cheers,Phil.

It waS SUPERB. Chef Brian Fowke did a magnificent job cooking for 14 of us, basically in a market stall. We asked questions, were shown techniques and then ate the wonderful food. They set up the table in the aisle in from of the stall, almost surreal but yet surprisingly intimate.
The menu was:
Victoria Gin & White Tea Martini
CHILLED CUCUMBER & BUTTERMILK SOUP
BC Spot Prawns, sherry pickled tomato, horseradish mousse
Twisted Tree 2008 Viognier Roussanne
CURED WILD COHO SALMON
Citrus cured and tea smoked, creme fraiche, parsley, caper salad
Road 13 2007 Ol Vines Chenin Blanc
SWEET PEA RISOTTO
Mint, crackling smoked pork
Lake Breeze 2008 Semillon
BRAISED ANGUS SHORT RIB
Potato puree, horseradish cream, red wine, shallots
Hester Creek 2005 Reserve Merlot
DARK CHOCOLATE MOUSSE
Strawberries, Chantilly cream, pastry
Summerhill Chalice
I took quite a few photos but didn't use flash so quite a lot are blurred, I'll see if I can rescue any.
And Assibams definitely won't eat lamb!

Sounds delightful, and I know the company was wonderful. So sorry I had to miss it.

Great food amidst great company! Life does not get any better than that. I'm sure more details will be forthcoming, but for me the best part was being surrounded by some of the most interesting and engaging people I know. And Chef Fowkes' take on salmon and the short ribs are the stuff of dreams.
We're still on our first cup of coffee this morning, but this afternoon we'll be meeting up with Meanie & Jersey Girl, Ashley & Jen, and others for more culinary adventures, including afternoon tea at Barbara Jo's Books to Cooks and dinner at Vij's.

Le sigh. I was there in spirit!
But, but, it's SUPPOSED to taste like that!

Missed you and MadMom. Thoroughly enjoyed dinner. The salmon was incredible and I'm a bit of a salmon snob. I'll post pictures once I'm finished with my seemingly neverending move. I haven't even looked to see if any of the pictures turned out. Wish I could have gone to Vij's last night or fried chicken today. Hopefully I'll get to meet MeanChef before he leaves.

You must meet the MeanOne! He's on my list too.

I ended up missing Vij's too, although it was part of my plans. Loved the dinner, but I wish I was feeling better. Turned out I was at the beginning of an adverse drug reaction that went into full effect that evening and is with me still. Despite that, I was sure glad that I was able to participate in the Granville Island event. We both had a great time.
It was great being able to add a face to a few more names.

Vij's was wonderful. My poor husband was literally dragged there the whole time saying "I hate Indian Food".....half way through his dinner, he just casually sat back and said.."I was wrong" :)

Me too--I recognize Assibams, and possibly Glenys, but I'm stumped on the rest.

I can add a few names. I call it the 3rd picture 1360. Left of Glenys is Peter and Shywoodlancreature. The man standing behind owns Edible and I am on Glenys right in the blue and white top.

Yes, you must. We've got space to put you up, provided you don't mind sharing digs with the dogs...
