And how am I to explain to Rufus that you will not be in Southern California?
One thing they never tell you about child raising is that for the rest of your life, at the drop of a hat, you are expected to know your child's name and how old he or she is.

We did give serious thought to Ca, but it seems to add at least a week on to the trip. I guess we know too many people in Ca. It will have to wait for the next trip. We avoided Texas for the same reason.
Our main focus this trip in to get to Seattle/Vancouver.

I will explain it all to Rufus, who will no doubt give me that jowly, headcocked, drooling stare. ;-)
Seriously, have a great trip and we'll catch you another time.

I suppose a jog into MI is out of the question?? Go Blue!
Sometimes I wonder--why is that Frisbee getting bigger?--and then it hits me.

We should get sponsors for this tour. MeanChef and Jersey Girl could tour the continent in a luxury RV, like rock stars. The roadies could be beginning cooks, or converts from the cans-boxes-mixes approach, and we could line the interstates with cheering throngs to greet them as they came through all our towns.
SURELY this board has the talent to design the logo and t-shirt. Wait, no, not a t-shirt. Pink capris.
And there could be an accompanying recipe contest. The best use of hardboiled eggs gets to have a private dinner with them at Vij's!
DANG, I wish we had unlimited money. This could be fun.

I'd be happy to offer up a design, but only if they include So Cal on the tour.

oh heck, yeah.
Without extortion, bribery and out and out threats, I'd never get anything done around here!

Hee. Before I had children, I was certain I'd never resort to such tactics. Things changed. ;-)

oh, it's simply amazing how much I knew about the proper way to raise the little carpet apes before they came along and set me straight.
my kids were going to be home-schooled, never watch TV. play video games or eat fast food, be charmingly polite and neat.
I would always cook healthy meals from scratch, in between art projects and reading to them every day, when I wasn't volunteering for the PTA or handmaking their clothes.
my kids are polite. at least to people other than me.
the rest of it? oh well.

Good one!
We were talking about some of our finer parenting moments at work the other day, and a coworker of mine told the story of moving into a new neighbourhood and then realizing that she'd been screaming at her kids with all the windows wide open. Later she went outside and introduced herself to her next-door neighbour and added sheepishly, "I guess you heard me yelling at my kids". The neighbour replied, "If I heard you yelling at your kids, it was only because I was taking a break from yelling at my own."

Its the carrot and the stick thing. If the carrot works then you don't need the stick. (No, I'm not talking about actual beating, there area other stick options out there like grounding, cancelling treats or allowance...etc.)

You know that after Knoxville, TN, you could swing over to NC for a spell. I'd even drive to Charlotte if that's what it takes!

Diners, Drive-ins and Dives is a show on the food network. We are driving to Seattle/Vancouver and along the way we will be eating in places shown on the show. On Sept 6 we will be staying in Oklahoma city.
Unfortunately it is a Sunday and most restaurants are closed.
