Got mine yesterday and love it.  All my favourites in one place!

Me too. I think they charged me twice. I sent an email to customer service a couple days ago and they never replied. Looks like I'm going to have to call.

Charging twice is not nice, lol.  But the cookie issue is inspiring.

I think I want spice cookies and dense chocolate ones this weekend.

I wonder if one of the charges was the automatic renewal of your online FC subscription?  I just called Taunton because there were 2 charges on my credit card, and was told one of them was the renewal.

Has it been a year already? You may be right. It would be nice of them to notify us and give us a chance to Not Renew if we wished.

I agree. I was paying my AmEx bill online tonight and couldn't figure out what the $9.95 was for. I checked the details and it had a code about "content" so I realized it was for My Fine Cooking. I can't believe it's been a year and I sure think they should have sent a heads-up email.

Customer service hasn't answered my e-mail either. I'm disappointed in them. I actually sent them two, one from their web page (no record of that) and another from my email account to have a record.  Nada. What's up with that?

Do they work on the weekend?
I think rebilling with no notice is a big mistake on their part. I would have re-upped anyway but I do like to be asked.

Very poor customer service. That's disappointing.

That's very disturbing -- I'd call on Monday during business hours. Poor service doesn't seem like the Taunton of the past, and I'm distressed at not being notified about the website membership being due. We should be notified about that before anything is done to renew.

I just got an email this week notifying me that I would see a charge for $9.95 for a renewal... so I guess they DO email. At least to me. :-)

I didn't get an email either.

Most companies give you a choice of automatically renewing or not. I would have said no on general principles.

I had a word with the customer service rep about negative option billing, and how unacceptable it is.  She told me that it's very clearly stated in the initial paragraph of terms and conditions when you sign up, and that a reminder email is sent prior to the billing.  When I asked her how many people, in her experience, remembered the terms and conditions of the signup, she said no one, so far.  She also mentioned that the Taunton email probably ends up in the recipient's spam folder.  I would have liked to get really stroppy with her, but since I wanted the online subscription, had to content myself with saying that I felt it was not the kind of thing I expected from Taunton.

I just received an e-mail from customer service in response to my posting here about renewals. They've renewed my membership and suggested that I check my junk mail. That's something I do frequently and there is nothing from Taunton about website renewal or anything else for that matter.

It seems doubly odd, because I'm always getting e-mails from them about buying books or joining another of their websites. Perhaps someone has dropped the ball on this one, but they're making an effort to clear things up, I hope.

Well, darn it, they've never answered either of my emails. I too keep tabs on my junk mail file.

Well, I just checked and got the form email too. Note it's in response to posts here, not in response to my emails. Curiouser and curiouser. <shrug>

Yep, that's exactly what I received except for a slight difference in renewal dates.

I'm inclined to agree with Gretchen that there was a slip-up and they'd rather not admit it after the fact. Everybody makes mistakes and the online subscription service is new, so I'd surely allow for them if that's what happened.

Ha, I just got the same e-mail and I never got a reminder e-mail either.  I've checked spam and junk--nothing.

Exactly. I check my spam folder when it prompts me every 3 days. It would seem pretty easy to set up.  I guess they didn't think of it when they started it--just a little box to check if you want to be notified when your time is up.

Gretchen

I think they are telling little white lies. NOTHING in my spam or email folders. If they don't do it, fine, it can be corrected. But it is strange that NONE of us have gotten them.

What worries me is that my credit card hit its expiration date last month, and I have a new one with the same number but different security code. I hope they don't cut me off. I can't remember when I signed up.

Maybe I should call ...

If I were you, I'd call and change the credit card information. It seems safer than an e-mail and you can be sure you're signed up again.

I came down this morning to find a renewal email, so someone's listening to you. Most FC emails go straight to my spam, so it's curious that this one made it through.

I got a nicely phrased reply to my email this morning too. Poor Betty must be tearing her hair out. :(

She explained that she never got the first one that I sent through their web page. Maybe that should be double checked.

I thought it was a great idea, but I have never really used it and probably won't renew.  Looks like I don't have any choice in the matter, since their phantom emails never make it.  Of course, all the emails offering new junk to buy does make it.  I have checked my junk mail and spam, and there is nothing there.  Guess I need to call customer service?  This is definitely not like them.

I think you should call and decline the service. As I mentioned, this morning I received an email about renewing. My spam blocker rarely lets anything from FC through, so if I got it, why didn't everyone else? Like you, I'm thinking about cancelling. I thought it was a terrific idea but I just haven't done much with it.

Heather's picture

there was nothing in my junk mail folder or regular mail either. I know that my email program accepts their emails because I get the newsletter regularly. I also get any ads they send for special offers, publications, etc.

Well, I suppose that those of us who DO remember don't call about it, so it's kind of a skewed sample group that she would be talking to. I just got my reminder email a couple of days ago, but I've been expecting it. I have several services that I subscribe to that function this way, and it's never been a problem for me.
