butternut squash soup with garam masala, yogurt and lime

I've really been enjoying the soups & stews special issue. There are SO many recipes I'd like to make!

Last night I made the butternut squash soup with garam masala and lime. I realized that nowhere in the recipe fails to mention what to do with the garam masala. It's in the ingredient list, but doesn't appear in the instructions. So, I tried to find it online to see if the error had been corrected. It didn't turn up on the search, no matter how I entered the search criteria. I wasn't terribly worried about it, I just tossed it in when it seemed appropriate, but I did wonder what was intended.

The soup was wonderful and I'll certainly make it again.

Has anyone else been making the recipes from this issue? I'd like to hear how they've turned out.

Hi Bessieheath, It does look

Hi Bessieheath,
It does look like there's an error in that recipe: you should cook the leeks, shallots, celery, and garlic until they're softened, then add the garam masala.

The reason that recipe is not online is that it was part of a Cooking Without Recipes feature that ran originally in the January 2009 issue. The online version is an interactive feature that lets you create your own recipe, in this case for a creamy vegetable soup
(you can try it out here: http://www.finecooking.com/articles/cyor/creamy-vegetable-soups.aspx

Hope you enjoy!
