CooksTalk Upgrade: Same forum, new look

RDA's picture

Good news, everyone: The CooksTalk forum will move to a new and improved platform called Drupal the week of Nov. 16. The move is part of a planned site-wide upgrade. CooksTalk is the first area of the site to benefit from this new technology.

What does this mean to you? CooksTalk will feature:

·         A new clean look

·         Improved Google search

·         Improved member profiles

·         Login-free message reading

·         Archived discussions still available (they are being migrated over right now)

·         Upgrades to raise the forum to industry standards

Stay tuned to FineCooking.com for more information in the coming weeks. I’ll pass along details as they become available.

The thing that gets me about this forum system is how long it takes for it to send email notifications.  I frequently don't get notified of some reply to me for hours.  There's no reason that it should take the system so long to send an email.  And I know that it's not something in my email provider - I receive mail from many other sources on a timely basis.

It's not a major problem, but I do wonder about it.

Maybe we'll find direction, around some corner, where it's been waiting to meet us.

Looks like I would have won the bet. Except no one took me up on it.

I was just trying to keep the balance between yeah and nay. :)
Either way I don't really care. I'm not the one to complain about
change. I know what it takes to make these things work.
I just sit and enjoy the ride.

The corner belongs to you and to me.  They could never take that away!  Besides, if they tried, where would we enjoy virtual bubbly and chocolates and where on earth would I rebuke sin?

How's your running going?

I've been doing 3 or 3.5 miles 3x/week.  Doesn't seem to be aggravating my hip but I don't see adding a lot much more mileage.

My running is pretty much non-existent these days. I did a 4 mile run two weeks ago, and that was pretty much it.

I got so hooked on P90X, no other kind of exercise gives me the same feeling - I love everything about it, the variation from day to day, the change between aerobic and intense weight training etc etc

So running took the back seat, but maybe once Spring comes, I'll reconsider.

Very possibly. I don't mean to be cryptic... we're still working out all the logistics and we want a chance to make a few test posts before we go live. I don't want to make any promises in case we need a little more time to get things working in a way that makes for the best possible experience.

Now, you'll have to school me. Is "the corner" the Ipke-Kitchen Kvetch, or is it where posters go when they've been bad? If it's Ipke, you can be sure that'll be available when we move over to Drupal, just like all the other forum folders. We're taking the forum's entire history with us. . .soup to nuts.

The "corner" is a metaphor.  It's where we get sent when we're overly risqué, bawdy, or gutter-minded.

Its a form of happy gentle self policing wherein the culprits have to go to the corner and whilst there they share virtual champaigne and chocolates. Some of us live there happily. ;) They won't let me come though. :(

Is "the corner" the Ipke-Kitchen Kvetch, or is it where posters go when they've been bad?

"Bad" in the corner is NOT the same as "bad" anywhere else in the known universe. You have to think of the corner as a sort of Platonic ideal, an abstract "place" or dimension where all that's best of dark and bright meet to share bubbly, eat chocolates and have their sins gently rebuked.
