Just got an email from Jessica's Biscuit, and they have lots of cookbooks, many cheaper than amazon, and free shipping if you order a certain amount.  Not that any one here needs new cookbooks, but...

JB often sells them cheaper than amazon. The problem for me is that they take 2-3 weeks to get out to the west coast.

Their best deals are in the closeout section-they always have lots of cookbooks you meant to buy but never quite got around to-and now they are 66% off.

I had a hard time at Jessica's website last night.  It kept putting me to some error page when I'd hit enter.  Really irritating, especially since I was tired and wanted to go to bed.  I trudged onward like the trooper I am and now have Martha's Cookies on the way.  Well, along with a book of Victorian recipes suited for today's kitchen (Sallets, Humbles & Shrewsbery Cakes) and a $3.98 on Women's Home Remedy Kit.

Had to hit 25 for free shipping, don't ya know!   .

Got Martha's Cookies yesterday and am going to make the very first recipe I opened to, which is Surprise Cookies tomorrow.   This is a cool book, so cool, that I'm going to take it into work on Monday and have a couple people tab a 'favorite' and surprise them on an 'un day'. (Not a birthday or anything)

(eyes squinting suspiciously) You are practising your enabling wiles, aren't you?

I quickly flipped thru this one at Borders the other day. They put all the cookie photos in front JUST like one of her old Holiday cookie mags. Looks like I can get this book & give away the mag, eh?

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with parsley sauce, goat cheese garlic mashed potatoes, Galena Cellars Niagra grape wine & Pie Boss's apple crumble topped with Ruth & Phil's sour cream/cinnamon ice cream.

The Surprise cookies are really good.  Nice, easy to follow instructions.  Pictures.

What's that I hear? Bad, bad recipes? Not working well at all? And cookies that don't look appetizing? ;o))))

Helena,

I thought of you as soon as I got this book. It is much better than the Klivans one, at least for me. You need it. Sorry. :)

Noooooo!! Please stop!! Then again, who am I kidding..... I knew I 'needed'  it the minute I saw it would come out (months ago). Does it really have some new recipes in it? I love Martha cookies, but she tends to repeat herself in these 'special editions' I think.

It's a GOOD thing I have a birthday coming up next month, hihi!

I seem to have lost my MS Holiday Cookies magazine from several Christmases ago. This appears to be the same because I recognize many of the photos and recipes. However, the book contains 300 pages, so perhaps there are extras in there. I know you'll really like it.

I don't get MSL so I don't know if these have all been published elsewhere (besides the Holiday magazine). If you do have the magazine, perhaps you could do without this book if it's pricey over there.

My subscription to the magazine ended in January or so. I do have the holiday cookie magazine and just think that in general, she repeats herself a lot in the special editions (there's a whole series of Christmas specials that I have a couple of). I often recall seeing ideas and/or recipes before. Still, I love each and every one of them. I do think she's the queen of presentation and can get away with these tactics. I just know I would love this book also. It's just that I'm trying to be a real good girl now that we're building the house and money is flying out of our pockets!

Well, how about if I scan the two recipes I love and send you more as I make them? We've renovated before, and I know how every dollar counts.

Oh, I would *love* that! Thanks so much for offering, I really appreciate it :o). I'll be over to my mom to try them out (I've given up on the oven in our house completely, LOL!)

Does it really have some new recipes in it?

The Holiday Cookie magazine has just over a hundred recipes.  The book has, are you ready?  175.  Plus, there are pages on pretty packaging at the back.

Fresh Peach Drop Cookies?  ANZAC Biscuits?  (Australia and New Zealand Army Corps) recipe from WW1.  Coconut Swirl Brownies? (Next on the list) No, I turned the page, Chocolate-Ginger Brownies are next for sure.

I won't tell you that work inhaled the Chocolate Surprise cookies today, that would just be mean.

They have the FC Annual (09/03/07) for $13. I didn't get that, but I did get a couple of other things.

I posted last week about several I got--the Joanne Weir book of Tapas and Meze is SO neat.  For a freebie I got A Kitchen Garden cookbook for DD. Got Peter Reinhart's little book about Brother Juniper's Cafe also.
