Puff pastry (post #62985)

I just noticed in the paper today that Martha Holmberg, who used to be with FC, has a new cookbook featuring Puff Pastry, called, curiously enough, Puff.  Has anybody tried it?  Martha's recipes are always good.

Just what I need.

NOT. ;-)

I mean, I'm sure it has great recipes, but more ways to work a stick of butter into every meal is the last thing I need on my shelf. (It reminds me of that wonderful ad currently on TV for some low-fat spread that has a 1950's-looking mom serving each person a baked potato with an entire stick of butter on top.)

My body does NOT need this cookbook.

That being said, you can look inside at amazon. It is a wonderful book-she discusses the pros and cons of all of the commercially available doughs, then has recipes to make your own.

It is cheaper at the Good Cook-I may just have to buy it so I can get those people off my back.

Thanks so much for this. I enjoyed my little snoop just now. I liked her walk through the method. Feel just slightly dishonorable, but will get over it....

I used to make puff pastry regularly.  Fresh croissants for breakfast, lovely fruit tarts, turnovers, and DD's favorite, pitivier, a gorgeous puff pastry case filled with frangipane.  Those were the good old days when we ate whatever we wanted and didn't gain an ounce.

I saw that book at Gourmet Warehouse last weekend. Everything looked delicious. I was trying to exercise will power last week by buying only one book (creme brulee book by the Duby's which I first leafed through at Sandra and Peter's home). Been thinking all week that I should have bought the puff pastry book as well.
