Little Cakes from Whimsical Bakehouse

RheaS's picture

UPS just delivered my copy of Little Cakes from the Whimsical Bakehouse. It's the same size as the original WB. Those who have more imagination than myself will likely have little use for this book if you already know how to make the chocolate decorations from WB or already make gorgeous cupcakes. The designs that immediately caught my eye are the ones for the tiered mini cakes (dragon, lovely lilacs),  flower cupcakes, beach pails, shark cakes (made from red velvet cake and filled with chocolate cherry whipped cream), 3-D spiders and ladybugs. As for the recipes, the ones I want to try soon include caramel cake and white chocolate raspberry cake.

I also bought Sherry Yard's Desserts by the Yard, but I haven't had a chance to flip through it yet since I'm supposed to be working even if I am stuck at home.

That one arrived with Pam Anderson's The Perfect Recipe - Losing Weight and Eating Great.  Needless to say, I've resisted the temptation to use it!  I do figure it will come in handy for the grands, though.

You are not a nice person for mentioning this...

Statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception.
- Mark Twain

That's funny! Now, I'd be perfectly safe, not having a kitchen...

Ohhhhh - bad-bad-bad!!!!!  This book is bad-bad-bad! (G)

Seriously - I'm so glad I got it.  Now, I've only had it a day, and haven't tried anything in it, but the IDEAS!!!!  Worth getting for the Sharks-eating-the-Swimmer alone! (G)  That is definitely Max's next birthday cake.

And there are plenty of other unique items in the book that I can't wait to do.  Only problem is - I'm going to have to get some MORE cake pans to do many of the things in the book.  I have all the other equipment, but mini-cheesecake pans, mini-rose pans, mini-cupcake pans, ice-cream-cone pan, mini-tiers, etc. - none of these do I own.

(G)  This is going to be a fun book.

TracyK!!! You NEED this book!

Well, you just convinced ME (not that that was a stretch, lol). I joined The Good Cook to load up on Christmas gifts, and I owe them a "real" purchase -- I think this will be it.

I have yet to try anything. I thought my post-surgery schedule would give me some baking time, but all I managed to fit in for baking were brownies (used an FC recipe). Hopefully this weekend.
