Outstanding book. I can't imagine my dessert life without this book. Recipes that are fairly simple to execute, turn out perfectly every time, and always get raves from guests. I turn to this book over and over again, and to a slightly lesser extent, her other book, Stars Desserts.

Favorite recipes:

*Mocha Baked Alaskas (this recipe started me making individual baked alaskas in many flavors)
*Chocolate Hazelnut Torte
*Espresso Chocolate Chip Angelfood Cake
*Mexican Chocolate Cream Cake
*Individual chocolate croquembouches
*Gateau Royale
*Mixed Berry Buns
*Raspberry Champagne Cream Cake
*Strawberry Gran Marnier Trifle
*Raspberry Lemon Buttermilk Pie
*Goat Cheese Cake with Mixed Berries
*Tipsy Italian Necterines
*Rhubarb upside down cake
*Apricot Custard Tart
*Frozen Peach Mousse with Raspberry Puree
*Mango Raspberry Fools (and my version of Mango Raspberry Fools)
*Lemon Curd Cake
*Bitter Orange Creme Caramel
*Lemon Custards
*Coconut Creme Pie with Mango and Blackberry Sauces (even I like this pie and I despise coconut under normal circumstances)
*Banana Creme Pie
*White Chocolate Raspberry Brittle
*Snappy Gingersnaps
*Apple Charlottes (and my version, Pear Charlottes)

See? And these are just a few of the ones I love. Honestly, I think I've only made one dessert in either book that I didn't much care for.

Get the books if you like desserts. If nothing else, her flavor combinations will inspire you.

CLS, I like your taste in cookbooks, so I looked for this one-- unfortunately, it's out of print. There are some people selling it used on amazon for $60, but I'm going to continue looking around. My shopping therapy is always for cookbooks, so this discussion is great for me, bad for my bank account!

Thanks, Jean...although I ran into a glitch and had to go directly to www.meetinghousebooks.com to purchase the book.

$60? You are joking!!! Wow, I love the book, but I wouldn't pay $60 for it. I'd get it at the library and copy the thing first. (That's illegal, isn't it?)

Nope, Jen - I was thinking you had...got an email back saying it had been sold. Looks like we both missed out!

I'll look for a copy at my various sources. I'll let you two know if I find one. It's worth looking for if you make desserts.

I found this but all the prices are more than the cover price for the book. I guess it depends on how much you want it.

Drat! I was consoling myself with the thought that if I couldn't have it, at least it would be in the kitchen of another avid cook. The bookstore must've been amused at the sudden massive run on a 5-year-old book.

Well, not to get anyones hopes up, but I've sent an e-mail to Harper Collins publishing cookbook section and asked if they had a line on a few copies. They published the thing. They should have a spare copy or two around!

Anyway, it doesn't hurt to ask. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Okay, what is up with this book? Has it suddenly become a collectors item? Because I've tried about 8 or 9 book search engines and seen at least 2 dozen copies of the book for sale, all for $60 + dollars. I can hardly believe it! What has caused this book to become so expensive?

Well, heck!

Eve, if no one else wants this book, I sure do!
Where did you find it?

Now I'm gonna get pissy...why didn't this message show up earlier??? If you find another one, I'd sure like it.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no...

I wouldn't hear of it, you and Jen M. can fight over it.
I just thought you might have purchased it already.
It is a great price!

Amy, please pass it to Madmom. I'm too crazy-busy with my new job to get it, much less enjoy it! Cheers, Jen

Amy - I wasn't getting pissy at you, sweetheart. I was just aggravated that this message never even showed up, yet I kept getting that idiot with the pyramid scheme every time I tried to check for new messages. You got it fair and square! Besides, I probably need another dessert cookbook like I need another 20 pounds added to my bottom!

I finally got a copy of Four-Star Desserts...

For an ebay bid of only $15
i and
it was delivered on my birthday. ;·)

Yesterday, I made the Morning Apple Cake. Now, CLS, I know you will be disappointed but I was completely out of walnuts. Had to use pecans instead and it is absolutely fabulous!

Thanks for recommending this book, it really looks great!
