It depends on what style you're looking for. If your focus is on buttercream, try "the Wilton school of decorating" (I think that's what it's called). It is a softcover book with a pink cake on top that is covered with buttercream roses. It illustrates many basic techniques and has been very helpful to me (I had to learn everything from books).

If you're looking for ideas with fondant covered cakes, try books by the authors Debbie Brown and Carol Deacon for instance.

If you want to make your own flowers out of sugar, there's a load of books just on that subject.

Author Colette Peters does great (but advanced) work.

For chocolate basics, try Elaine Gonzalez.

If you could be a bit more specific, I could probably help more :0). Oh, and check out www.wilton.com for basic techniques and stuff.

It;s my favorite subject and I love collecting books as well :o). Try to look at www.bookcloseouts.com they usually have some great deals on books, and I have always had good experiences with them.
