Are you Getting Fresh?

Florida2's picture

I got an email for "fresh", a magazine from Taunton. Have you any opinion on it? It doesnt show the table of contents. Its 7.99 and free shipping.

I imagine it is one of their special publications that they put out each year. It will eventually be on the newsstand if it is like the others.

I get all the extra magazines.   It's a sickness.

But, but, it's SUPPOSED to taste like that!

I'm trying to resist this one, but may give in during a moment of weakness.

The only one I managed to resist was one that focused on chicken!

I'm sure I resisted that one, too, since chicken isn't one of my favorite things, but you're right - it must be an illness. I can't resist the things, even though I know most of the recipes aren't new, and are available elsewhere.

We're victims of cunning marketing. LOL

I share your sickness, but must say that the Chicken 101 is the comp issue I use the most, it has fantastic recipes in it. Wouldn't part with it. (And I can't seem to find all the special-issue recipes on the website.)

Did anyone get the Dinner Party issue? I saw it at Costco but it didn't grab me on a quick thumb-through.

I didn't care for it, and didn't care for the Dinners (?)  a couple of years ago. I have been able to resist a number of them, and now I assume I can access through the online membership.

I'm not sure if the recipes from the special editions are on the website, at least not the ones that weren't already in the magazine.
Yesterday I was hoping to find the recipe for some meatballs that I made from the Appetizer edition but it wasn't on the website.

I can't always find the special-issue recipes on the site either, which I wish they would rectify.

I thought the special editions were almost always composed of recipes that had previously appeared in regular issues.

The trouble today is that almost everyone is famous and almost no-one is interesting. (paraphrased Tina Brown)

They usually have a few new ones mixed in.

As Kathy said. Mostly old with a few new--the Appetizer one has about 6 recipes not previously published.

Also, they have usually taken the "old" recipes & tweaked them a bit-new serving method, new variations of flavors, etc.

I went through all my print special editions a while back to transfer the recipes I wanted to try in My Fine Cooking. I noticed that the print version had a lot of extras not found on the website. Lots of sidebars w/ lots of good information.

You need to buy both the online access & the print version.

Everytime I look at the title of this thread I see "Are you being FRESH?" and I hear it my mother's voice. LOL

Not sure if it is regional, but "fresh" is/was a common word here for talking back or being a smart-####. And I remember hearing this QUITE often as a child ;)

Growing up, fresh meant boys w/ roving hands.
