Great brownies from two great women. These were posted in honor of Chiqui's Aunt Tia Belle right after she passed away. Some of us made them in her honor after she posted the following:

"In celebration of her life I made Princess [Chiqui's daughter] a batch of the brownies Aunt Tia used to make for us as kids....She called them Hepburn's Brownies because they were printed in an interview that Katherine Hepburn did years ago in a ladies' magazine.....Princess said they were the best brownies she ever tasted..........Here's to you, my sweet Aunt Tia."

b Hepburn's Brownies

*2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled slightly
*1 stick butter, melted
*1 cup sugar
*2 eggs
1/2 teasp. vanilla
*1 cup chopped nuts, optional
*1/4 cup all purpose (yes, only 1/4 cup)
*1/4 teasp. salt

Combine melted chocolate, butter and sugar. Stir well to dissolve sugar.

Beat in eggs and vanilla. Quickly stir in remaining ingredients.

Spread batter in a well greased 8" X 8" square baking pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 325* for 40-45 min.

Cool. Cut into 12 large squares. These are great plain.....dusted with powdered sugar or topped with a good quality vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce.

We've made these many times, very easy & very good. DH's favorites. I like them baked for about 50 minutes; they will be chewier this way, however, after a few hours, they will start to get pretty hard. Also, we just melt together the butter and chocolate at the same time in the same saucepan, then stir in the sugar, etc.

Thank you Chiqui and Aunt Tia.
These are great brownies. One alteration I made was to melt the choc, butter and sugar on the stove at the same time, on low. Then I added the other ingredients directly into the pot. Worked beautifully and only one dirty pot!

Ok. I just love these brownies. But I find that 40mins at 325 is too long. I much prefer 25 mins at 350. This way they are more moist and less cake-like.
