A good cooking software program

HenryHoover's picture

Hello, folks,

Just want to say how glad I am to be a newbie in this cooking group. I'm interested in your recommendations for a good cooking software package. Especially one that stores an infinite number of one's own recipes (no, I could never eat that much, but you never know), easy printing (cards or letter-format), scalable up or down, and likes to run in MS Office environment.  The last Fine Cooking I have that talked about this was No. 12 in January 1996.  I'm sure some great things have happened in the software arena since then.  Appreciate your good advice! My copies of FC are getting a bit worn around the edges, if you know what I mean.  Thanks!

Welcome to CT, Henry - and may I be the first to recommend MasterCook.  I think most of the people here use it.

I agree that Masterchef "was" the best but I spent a month last summer trying to find it.  As far as I can tell Sierra sold it and who ever bought it fell off the face of the earth.

I settled for "ACU CHEF'... not bad but not the same- quite.

Bad part is I own a copy of master chef and can't find it to save me.

Mastercook software is still available.  Go to google.com and search on Mastercook.  You can buy it for less than $10.

THX, I found it for 13+5, I can't believe I didn't find it last summer except I didn't. Now if I can just figure out how to get all the neat recipes I find that I want to try to down load in a format that "Mastercook" can read.

Read the directions.  If the recipes are on the web, you can just copy/paste very easily using the import assistant feature.  There are also sites that enable you to download mastercook formated rcipes by the 100's.

Let me know if you get stuck.
