What is It? (post #56304)

Found it at the thrift store for 3 dollars. Can't figure out what it's used for. Thinking maybe rice related?

And last but not least:

This kitten needs a home, any takers?

Steamer, I would guess. Not in my opinion rice. I would think perhaps dumpling?

Kitty is cute, DH is allergic.

Are we talking about the steamer or the Kitty?

I think a steamer of some kind. Probably goes in a wok on a rack or over a pan of water.

This looks more like something for potpourri to me.

It would help to know how big around and how tall it is.

Shame you're in Kansas, my DD (who lives here in NC) would probably take that kitty in a minute.

Fortunately there is a no kill shelter near us.  The SPCA, in all its humaneness, is trying to shut it down.  Says the animals should have concrete to run on, not just grass.  Makes me ill.  I will say this, when we went into the SPCA shelter, it smelled of animals, but when we went to this one, it smelled nice.  But, then, nobody asked me.

Is that a cork on the bottom, that maybe to keep from scratching a table or it is maybe a rubber "seal" that would fit over another "pot".

And what about on the top edge of the bowl?

To my mind there is not enough area for it to be an effective steamer.

And also it look like it could collect condensation in the bottom up to the first line of holes.

And then when you tried to move and it tilted just the slightest that it would be dribbling hot water.

Maybe it was a meant to be a steamer, but designed by someone from the wrong side of the state line.

So it's a Missourian steamer?

My first inclination was that it is a rice steamer.  Then I wondered if it might be some sort of cheese strainer.  Then I really LOOKED at it and realized what the design on the side was.  Went back to my first inclination.

Vegetable Steamer
The vegetable steamer sits on top of
a small sauce pan of boiling water.
The steam comes up through the spout
and steams the vegetables.
