I have that Kitchenaid convection oven on top and regular oven on bottom. The element on the top does burn my yeast rolls and pies and cakes and cookies are even hard to bake. I have tried putting foil over the bread and pies and moving them to the lower level, convection and non-convection with no success. The top of the bread becomes hard and thick only in my oven. I have had the oven checked and it is testing within the normal range. I keep a liquid thermometer inside the oven to monitor the temp. I have found no solution.
