Food and Wine for 5$

Amazon is selling a one year subscription to Food and Wine for 5$ (there are other magazines for that price as well), the price is great but is the material good? How is it different from the now defunct (sob) Gourmet and Bon Appetit?

Is Bon Appetit going away too??? I didn't hear this!

Food and Wine is owned by American Express Publishing.

not as far as I know...

What I meant to say is bascially, is it a good cooking mag?

My sister gave me a subscription for Christmas last year.  It's ok, but I wouldn't miss it if it didn't show up.  I don't think I've ever tried a recipe, come to think of it.  It's probably worth it for 5 bucks.

What if there were no hypothetical questions?

For a $5 subscription, give it a try. I would say that I actually make more recipes from it than I have from Gourmet in recent years. Not as much "quick" or "simple" stuff as BA.

I get too many cooking mags and every time I try to minimize, DH sees a deal like that and resubscribes me.

I read them, tear out what I want (or find it on the website) and leave the copies at my gym.

I have had subscriptions to F&W on and off, when I could get it cheaply. I paid $6 for my current subscription.  I'm not sure if I've used any of the recipes but I do, in general, find it an enjoyable read.

OH, I LOVE Food and Wine and my subscription just lapsed. Thank you. It is an excellent magazine, I think. Can't go wrong for that price anyway.

Take a look at their website for examples of their recipes. They feature top echelon chefs often.

I've been taking it for years.  Now I only take F&W and Saveur.  F&W has good recipes, a lot of wine suggestions with recipes a good wine writer.  I use a lot of their recipes in my cooking classes.

I did this last year and they then renewed it automatically at the standard price.  So just watch when you expiration date is and cancel before if you don't want it any longer.

Thank you for the warning! I did not have that problem with my bon appetit and gourmet subscriptions also done through amazon, but I will keep on eye out.

I renewed my bon appetit for $16 which included a GS to anyone. They kept sending me notices that my subscription was running out, after the 4th notice I called them and asked why they kept sending me those notices since I had already paid. She said the $16 was for the gift subscription, not mine. I got ticked and canceled! Now I have F&W for $5!!
