Are these good knives?

They don't look that great to me.  Wustoff makes wonderful knives, but these are just not in that category.

I'd skip it. I have 1 Wusthoff from the Gourmet line and several from the Classic line. I don't care much for the 1 Gourmet knife. That being said, depends on who they are for. I'd consider these for my daughter who is 19 getting an apartment soon.

I can't open the file. Which program should I use? I tried Microsoft Word, Excel viewer, and an other one I don't remember.

They are stamped not forged. They are all right, just realize what you are getting. For stamped knifes, I prefer the Victorinox

Is that the knife that got top honors for Best Bargain Chef's Knife in a recent CI test?

Gary's picture

yes. I have several sets of knives and I use Victorinox when there is a chance my Wustoffs may wander off. At school, we use Mercers.

Oh yeah. I travel with Victorinox and Mundial for a similar reason, what if I leave them somewhere?

Isn't it amazing the number of people who can't spell Wusthof, even when they have the knives?

I'm not sure that is a real good buy, unless you need alll the knives, etc. in the set. I guess it is an OK buy/knife.  And do you want the block?    As others have said, Victorinox may be a better buy.  Take a look at knives on Amazon.

I have a Wusthof santuko that I paid $25 for--I think it is that "grade".  I like it better than the $100 ones I bought all the kids for Christmas that year.  At this stage of knifedom in my house, I like to choose the knife I need.

I just wondered if it was a good buy. Like I said with the Gold Box deals, you have an hour to decide. I'm not really in the market for knives but try to keep an eye out for good deals on quality stuff for the boys and myself.

Let's pick some more nits and spell the manufacturer even more correctly: Wüsthof (spelling 'ue' instead of 'ü' is acceptable for those typing on non-Umlaut keyboards) :-)

That may be a nit too far, even the manufacturer doesn't use the umlaut or ue alternative on the website, except in trademark logos.

True, the Umlaut is not being used internationally for the webaddress due to an apparently international agreement to replace any Umlauts or the Scandinavian æ, å with plain letters (grrrr to whoever's idea that was, makes Swedish webaddresses illegible). Other than that, Ü all around *g*

I have the Victorinox. I knew the name Wustoff and thought they had good knives, but you know how it is when you see the Gold Box deals. You have an hour to decide about something you weren't planning on buying anyway. lol. But on the off chance these were the deal of a lifetime, I wanted to check with you guys first. My bank account thanks you. :-)

And thanks to everyone else who answered. Yes, the Victorinox was a CI best buy a couple of years ago.

Always good to ask.  I came across a set of Wustoff knives, including a chopping block, scissors, and I think six knives, at Sam's one year for $79.  Bought it for younger DD, and turned out I should have bought more than one.  They were grossly mismarked.  Forged knives, really nice.  I have more knives than I could ever use, but I still dream of coming across another "sale" like that one.
