What's going well?

Aberwacky's picture

In this time of economic peril, job loss or, if you're lucky, just a reduction in hours or pay, it's time to have some positive news.

I can't think of any right now, but if you can, please share it!!!

I'm still getting married!! :-) Hoo boy, there is a lot to think about, and figuring out a date is going to be the hardest part... but it's pretty exciting. :-)

Also three of my good friends have recently given birth to healthy baby girls! I'm planning a quick trip to Chicago to visit one of them and got GREAT airfare.

Yes, picking a date is always the rub!! Are you marrying in the DC area or at your folks' home?  I know you don't need this advice but check "church", recption choice, and in the case of Charlotte, NASCAR race weekends!!

Great news, and congratulations to the lucky groom!  You'll have to keep us posted on dates and places, so we can all show up and embarrass you.  Congratulations to your friends on their new babies, too.  With all the bad news being shared (and I think that's part of what we're here for, so am not complaining) it's good to hear some good news for a change.

Good grief, don't you know this deserves a thread, all caps, red letters, giant print, and bold????

I am so so happy for you, and excited.

Thanks, everyone!  This thread has been just the thing to lift my spirits.

For us:

Hugo's temperature was normal for the first time in nearly a week

The twins are here this weekend

Spring is springing, daffodils are blooming, and DH has already turned the garden for me

All my seeds are sprouting this year!

My jewelry business is picking up--still wouldn't come close to replacing my salary, but it's definitely good for my ego

Silver prices are still relatively low

We bought a used pontoon boat that will make life on the lake a lot more fun this summer

There were 18 finches on the feeder this morning, and it's only 3 inches from the window so we can see every detail

Gas prices are still relatively low, which makes the 150 mile round-trip daily commute more reasonable

Everyone in the family is mostly well (minus a winter full of colds and other virii).

Our city is giving out 100 bucks to replace old toilets with water conserving models - just as one of ours sprung a leak.

My husband and I are going through a second honeymoon phase of our marriage (ooh la la).

My son loves school.

Our foster son is easy, sweet, and we're all learning how to manage the drama with much more grace.

We got super cheap tickets to go to Arizona in April to visit my folks.

My job is mostly stable, and my husband's is as well - so far.

We're supposed to get snow later this afternoon and tonight and tomorrow morning.  DH was just commenting that the storm stretches down to Alabama and Georgia.  Wheee!

stretching all the way to Maine, actually -- here in MA we will be looking at 10-18" of new white stuff by tomorrow evening.  oh.  joy.   le sigh.

edited to add:  in keeping with the title thread, tho, the snow means it's still great homemade soup weather (making some tonight), and at this time of year, it won't last too long -- had green grass showing two days ago, all the ice is gone off the drive, AND some green shoots are poking their heads up in the garden under the kitchen window.  whooppeeee!

Just finished eating a braised pot roast.  Yummy!  Used Mollie Stevens' recipe, which has turned out to be my default.  Had enough left over so I called the DSIL and told him to come get it.  DD is working late, but he had already cooked dinner (I think he's a keeper!) so will get it tomorrow.

On the list of what's going well, have to add that both of my DDs married keepers.  Older DD's husband is great with the girls, helps with their homework and checks to make sure it's done, and when DD is off to Cincinnati with the youngest, he keeps the home fires burning.  Younger DD's husband is back from his second Iraq tour, and when DD has to work, he's great about looking after the boys.  I think we lucked out with both of them!  Of course, they were lucky to have found such wonderful women, right?

I think I've said this before, but in New Hampshire a spring snow (which technically it ain't) is a Poor Man's Fertilizer! I remember these strange, little jumping flea size insects on top of the spring snow. I never knew what they were, only assumed an insect to eat for early birds!

Good luck with the snow...didn't you just get about 11 inches last Monday?

Hey, mulch - you must have misunderstood something... see the title of this thread?

it reads: ----> What's going well? <----

got it? Now you can go back and edit your post accordingly....

I *like* snow!

If it makes you feel any better, it's all melted now, the sun's out, and there's not a cloud to be seen.  Squirrels are playing tree rugby in the backyard...

Here, there were 18 inches (of snow) under the feeder this morning and we could see 3 finches out the window.

But at least it's fluffy snow.

I've been laid off since mid December. Yesterday I had 2 conversations with people from work. They're talking about sending me down to the main office for a while for some software training soon.

The main office is a 75 minute commute away, which stinks. But I'll be happy to get back to work again.

On a cosmic note, I read today that an asteroid the size of one that leveled 800 sq miles in Siberia in 1908 just zipped by the earth just 48,800 miles away (about one-fifth of the distance from the earth to the moon).

So that went well. Phew.

The biopsy's from my upper GI are all...NEGATIVE!    There is nothing that can help though, just stay on the aciphex.

I was within 2 dollars of my amount to spend at Costco.  Only got two things not on the list and only forgot one thing on the list.

The car repair had affected my gas consumption, only realized how much after it was fixed.

I've lost 2 lbs and worked out 4 times last week.  (And I was transfixed by the heavy young lady on the step thing going 90 miles an hour forever, when I was gasping with relief as I finally got to one mile on the treadmill.) LOL

But, but, it's SUPPOSED to taste like that!
