Whaddya mean Discussion does not exist?

Aberwacky's picture

Anybody else having problems with the search function lately?  I mean more than normal problems.

Seems every topic I look for the past few weeks returns no threads and a "discussion does not exist" message.

I'm talking about searches like "cookie" and "peach jam."  Things I KNOW we've discussed recently and repeatedly.

This last time was a few minutes ago, looking for a discussion we had on pasta carbonara.  Nada.  Same for carbonera.  Zip.

Frustrating.

Are you using the Advanced Search function?

Regular search (one at the bottom of the messages list) and Advanced Search.  At first I thought it was just from home (dialup) but it's happening on the T1 line at work, too.

Hmm, can't say I've had a problem with the search lately. And just tried carbonara and got 77 hits.

You have a special gift.

Works fine for me, too... are you searching from "beginning of time" to "today"? That usually makes all the difference in the world. Or maybe there's just some kind of technical hiccup.

Yep.  I tried leaving all the other advanced search fields blank and just filling in the search word.  Tried from Me, etc.

Just searched carbonara and got 75 hits.  Few minutes ago it was "discussion does not exist."

Must be a hiccup.

Did you know that a search can be fouled up by one extraneous space? It's true. Make sure your cursor is at the very end of the word or words you're searching. It ain't like Google.

I'm generally very careful with my searches (have to use several different kinds at work and each has their own picky rules), so watch out for extraneous spaces and the like.

I've had issues with the prospero search off and on, but the issues have been more consistent lately.

It's not just the search function doing it. I got the "this discussion..." the other night when I clicked on a thread titled A Question for Samchang, and it hadn't been up for that long and there hadn't been any replies to it. I thought, "geez, that must've been some question!"

I'm sure I read a thread from Biscuit about the curried chicken salad that was ages ago, but with yesterday's date and time. Now I don't see it.

That's the OK, is it me or her thread. There was another thread about that chix salad a while ago, as well.

Yup, happened to me today when I was trying to resurrect the Vij cookbook thread.  I was ready to give up and call myself really stupid!

You CLEARLY offended the Search God.

No sense ignoring it, you should go to the corner and think about what you did. Apologize to her. Profusely.

All will be fine afterwards.
