R.I.P. Little Mercedes

R.I.P. Little Mercedes (post #39730)

For anyone who was following the thread (Sick Kitty) I had on the old board's IPKE -

We had Mercedes euthanized yesterday. She was in total kidney failure, and overnight IV fluids didn't show any improvement. So we decided to let her go.

I'll miss her - she alone converted me from a dogs only person to a dog and cat person. She was a tough little warrior - my favorite memory of her was just a few weeks ago - DH let her in the front door, not realizing Cassie was lurking in my office. Cassie charged Mercedes, and all 8 pounds of Mercedes stood up to 58 pounds of CassieLouise. I hauled Cassie away, Mercedes beat it downstairs. Mercedes didn't have a mark on her, but Cassie had a swipe across the nose, one in the corner of her mouth and two fang holes in the top of her head.

Final score: Mercedes 1; Cassie 0

RuthAnn,

I am so sorry. There is nothing like losing a dear pet. Mercedes sounds like she was a wonderful companion.

So sorry RuthAnn! I know the pain: I lost a dog a year ago and still haven't recovered.

Hi RuthAnn, it's me - Sandra. Just wanted to add my condolences to the others. I also lost a much-loved cat a few years ago - Mercedes sounds as feisty as Gizmo was.  Hope your memories are all happy ones, and that you've got lots of pics for the days and weeks ahead!

BTW, my co-worker just lost her 15-year-old cat/child a couple of weeks ago, and swears the cat has come back as a ghost to haunt, taunt, and comfort her. May you be as lucky!

Thanks. don't have as many pictures as I'd like, but I have her little blue collar next to my desk. She was a great little kitty.

I'm so sorry to hear about your little Mercedes leaving this part of her life.  She'll be missed.   How much richer your lives have been having had her in them.

"don't have as many pictures as I'd like, but I have her little blue collar next to my desk. She was a great little kitty."

RuthAnn,

You reminded me of the difficult time I had when my little pug dog died two years ago. I wore his collar as a bracelet for about a month. It surprised me how comforting it was as a talisman.

I'm so sorry to hear about Mercedes, RuthAnn, I had to send my son's cats back to him and I cannot believe how much I miss them both.

RuthAnn - I am so sorry you lost your kitty. Pets have a way of getting to you and you end up loving them much more than you intended. I lost a little dog about 5 years ago and I can still tear up thinking of her (she was 14 years old). She had a stroke or heart attack that took her immediately, but we had to have another of our dogs euthanized after he got into some antifreeze. I don't really want any more pets because I do get too attached.

RuthAnn - I was always a dog person.  Could not stand cats.  Then a stray cat "adopted" us, and I was lost!  We finally had to have her put down, and my DD took her...I could not do it.  I still get teary eyed when I think of her.  All it takes is one good cat (or dog) to convert most people!

So sorry for your loss RuthAnn. Mercedes was beautiful and that's coming from a strictly dog person. I lost a beloved dog last year although not to death (package deal with the ex-bf) and I still miss him very much. He was my first real pet and converted me to a die-hard dog lover.

Am I ambivalent? Well, yes and no.

RuthAnn, I'm so sorry... I think someone has posted that sweet little Rainbow Bridge poem thing at 'zaar for you, it's a bit on the cheesy side but so sweet... always makes me cry.  Warm thoughts coming your way, from me and from Tasha too.

Oh Ruth Ann, I'm so sorry she didn't make it. There'll be an empty space around your house. What a great story about Mercedes and Cassie. She sure had spunk!

So sorry, RuthAnn

I was wondering about it - it is so sad to lose a pet like this, but at least you know she won t be suffering, and you did what was best for her.

Take care of yourself

RuthAnn, I am so sorry.  I lost Beep (first pet all my own, a grey feline-with-attitude) this past November, and I still miss her dreadfully.  The comfort is that they loved us at least as much as we loved them.

Ruth Ann, I'm sorry about Mercedes. She was a beautiful cat. But I have to tell you, I was so befuddled earlier today by all the changes that my first thought on skimming your post was " She killed her car?"

Where is Monica Lewinski when you need her?

oh, that's okay Charlotte. it was always a little confusing having a cat with the same name as our cars...speaking of the cars, looks like GretelWagon will be going to a collector in Belgium. Which makes us quite happy - she was actually built in Belgium, so this will be "going home" for her.

Now you will have a great excuse to visit Belgium--besides the chocolates!

I'm glad you were able to find a good home for her.
