SallyBR1's picture

Already a best-seller, even though it is not going to be published until November.

unfortunately, I am not too surprised.

I'm always amazed when someone who can't form a coherent sentence writes a "best seller."  She'll run out of conservative right wingnuts soon, though, and hit the remainder pile.  Who actually wrote it for her?

You need to hear the first part of Wait Wait this week. It is hilarious and relentless about it.  One comment was that it is page 75 before there is a verb, and it is blank after page 100.

They also said someone misread the title as "Rouge" instead of "Rogue".

The book is, of course, ghost written.  I heard Richard Wolfe, who is on his own book tour, say that the numbers from on-line booksellers, like Amazon, aren't reliable.  Lists such as the NYT bestseller list are compiled from sales figures given by the publishers and are far more accurate.  That said, I'm sure she will sell a bazillion copies.  No doubt it's packed full of stuff that will help Alaska, as was her recent lucrative speech in Japan.  That was the reason she resigned, wasn't it?  To better serve the people of Alaska?

I thought of you this past Friday evening, as I know you are a big fan of Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me, as are we.  DH and I attended an event where Peter Sagal served as moderator.  We got to talking with him and his wife afterwards and ended up having a late dinner together.  I wasn't surprised that he's very smart and well informed, but I was surprised to discover that "off-stage" he's really quite serious and very intense.  Also very funny.

I LOVE him. It is always so obvious that the copy is written for him, and when someone else subs, the timing is just SO bad!!  Lucky duck, you are!!  ;o)

On the evening news tonight it was reported that Sarah Palin's husband has quit his job to take care of his family.  DUH!   I will not comment - I'll let your minds run amok - mine has already.

BUT, BUT, BUT I thought having a job WAS taking care of your family? ;-)

Not in the weird world of the Palins, where quitting as governor means "taking care of Alaska" and quitting your job means "taking care of your family."  Like Octomom, I wish they would just go away.

LOL, sometimes we're just in the right place at the right time.  How much greener will you be if I tell you that the other person at the table was Scott Turow?  He was one of the people on the panel that evening.  We knew him casually as he is still part of the legal community, but we had never gone much beyond "hello, nice to see you."  He's a fascinating man with a first class mind.

The whole thing happened because Peter had said, in introducing Scott, that many people that evening had mistakenly called him Mr. Turow and he wanted everyone to note that he was by far the better looking of the two.  It got a laugh, but they are about the same size, both are balding, and they really do look somewhat alike.  I wanted to meet Peter, so I went up to him after the program, put out my hand and said "Mr. Turow, I'm a big fan and I'm just thrilled to meet you."  He gave me the evil eye, realized that I was putting him on, grabbed my hand and laughed.  So began the conversation and the rest kind of evolved.

Bit of an Atlantic divide here, I immediately thought of MICHAEL Palin who has just done a few interviews over here and I wondered why you were dissing him. Then the penny dropped, because obviously I didn't think the OTHER Palin was capable of string two word together coherently.

She isn't, but as witnessed in her op-ed piece, she does occasionally find a ghost writer to help her express herself!

Not me, but evidently enough people are interested to put her (or her ghost writer) on the best seller list.  It is sad when a woman who seems as uninterested in current affairs as she is, spouts family values but has an unwed mother for a daughter, and quits the job she was elected to do, still has such a following.  What on earth are people thinking?

He was in Monty Python, a very very funny man. Of the three--Sarah P, Michael Pollan and M Palin--I'd choose the latter's book to read.

He's been in a lot of films and travel pieces since Python, notably A Fish Called Wanda. Now that was a funny movie!

Yes. S. Palin is mind-boggling; M. Pollan is thought-provoking; and M. Palin is just plain good reading.

As well as the other stuff Michael Palin has done several excellent travel series on the TV, with accompanying books.

Not to mention being a lovely, lovely man that you would like to have to dinner.
