new Dubai eatery...

Saw this in the news today and I almost threw up last year's meals.....at first I thought it was a joke and quickly read on to see it was not. And people wonder why and how history keeps repeating itself. I know this is not about  a recipe, but I just had to vent.......

These Indian owners seem to be right in tune with the Indian telephone answerers we have outsourced to--they just don't get it.  THAT is criminal and unforgivable.

There is a tombstone of a woman near where my Mom's parents are buried and it reads..

"...all five of her children perished in the Holocaust"

I get chills everytime I see that stone. This just sickens me.

There are many people out there today who deny the Holocaust ever happened. It always shocks and frightens me when anti-Semitism rears its ugly head. And they said "never again". I pray not.

Growing up in a small town I had more than my fair share of that to deal with....my parents made me watch those Holocaust movies and while I remember crying , it was easy to just think it was in the movies.

Several years later my Mother introduced me to a fine older gentleman who was a long standing member of our synagogue...his name was Willy.....he slowly lifted his worn looking suit jacket and revealed the numbers tatooed onto his arm. There were no words spoken and he just let the sleave gently fall back down and looked at me with eyes that were full of a million stories, and they burned right through me.

When he turned he leaned over to reach for something on the table in the room and my eyes, for some reason fell to his ankles. He had no socks on and my face must have had a look of horror with wide opened eyes and a gaping mouth. His ankles were barely covered with skin, so small and thin compared to the rest of his exposed lower leg.

My Mom took me aside and explained that when he was in one of the concentration camps he was whipped so badly that the end result was what I had seen. I was embarrassed to have seen such a personal thing on another human being. I was humbled far beyond my young years.
