My dad (post #49666)

I haven't been around in a while and just wanted to let you all know my dad passed away very unexpectedly last Saturday. His health hadn't been good in years, and he wasn't in good spirits, but none of us expected we had to let go at the age of 69.

The funeral was yesterday, and mom, my sister and her husband and son and Marco and I have spent the week together, remembering, telling stories and sharing our sorrow. We will all be fine, but it has been harder than I could ever imagine. I'd appreciate some good thoughts and/or prayers for my mom, who showed us once again what a wonderful, strong and caring lady she really is.

I am so sorry to hear you lost your Dad, and at such a young age. I will say a prayer for your mom and your whole family as you try to adjust to not having him with you. How wonderful that you can share your memories with each other.

You, your mom and the rest of your family have my deepest sympathy, Heleen. I'm just so sorry.

Grieving is a process...you and your mom will get through it, but it is likely to be hard. Things do get better, however, and remembering the good times does help.

Oh Helena...How terribly sad.  Big warm hugs from New Orleans for you and your family.  No one is ever prepared to lose a loved one....even when there is a long illness.  You and yours are in my prayers, too.  I pray that God will ease your pain and bring back wonderful memories of good times shared with your Dad to bring you comfort.

So sorry for your great loss.I have to say I have a bit of an idea of what you are  going through as I lost my Dad almost 30 years ago at 63 and then 2 years later lost my Mum at 62.You are never too old to be an orphan.

It is a good chance to live more in the moment when this happens

Big hugs for you.
