Everyone, I just spoke with CookiMonster's mother.  CM went into the hospital last night.  So far, according to her mother, she is "holding her own", and is on drip IV antibiotics.  There's no more information than that at this time, I'll keep you updated as I know things.

For now, please, PLEASE all of you - pray to whatever Gods, Goddesses and natural forces you believe in to send all the most positive healing vibes possible to her.  CM is an incredibly special person, and I'm sure we all want her to get well as soon as possible.

That is worrisome, but hopefully they are just being cautious and simply admitted her to give her IV antibiotics.

Positive thoughts being sent her way. Thanks for letting us know.

I'm not sure you can attribute it to that.  According to her mother, her temp was still high and she could hardly breathe last night, so she (her mother) took her straight to the ER.  After tests, they determined that the oral antibiotics had had little to no effect so far, so the have hospitalized her and put her on IV antibiotics to try and get her stable.  They are thinking at this point that it may be viral since the antibiotics don't seem to be having much effect.

That's all I know right now - her mother is going to call me directly if anything changes and I promise I'll let you know when I do.

Biscuit, thanks so much for keeping us posted.

I am beyond worried - if it is viral, what are they going to do?????

this is so scary - I hope we get good news very very soon. Tell her Mom we've got an army of people here sending the best possible vibes to her daughter

Viral pneumonia is usually mild but there is a third type, I believe, and it's bad and accompanied by a high fever. I evidently had it when five months pregnant, and if this is what CM has, the hospital is really the best place for her. Of course, it's possible that it IS bacterial and just didn't respond to the oral antibiotics. I'm most awfully glad CM is in the hospital, as frightening as that can sound.

They'll keep her hydrated and fed with an I.V., and I'm sure she'll recover, Biscuit. You're a good friend.

Late to the party, but hoping the news continues to be nothing but improvement, these things are always very scary, I'm always worried they make the wrong diagnosis and spend time treating the wrong thing.  Sounds like she turned the right corner!  Send her regards and hope for quick recovery.

We just now got off the phone with Cookie and the news is that the drugs appear to be working and if she does not have a recurrence of the fever, she will be going home in a day or two. Doc said it was a classic case of ...I can't pronounce it much less spell it.

Cheers,

Daily update:

She's doing very well today.  Much stronger.  Ran a little fever this morning, but nothing to worry about.  Should be home in a couple of days, she thinks.

She's been given an expectorant (sp???) to make her cough - a LOT she said (G) - because the doctor wants her to get rid of all the crud in her lungs.  The coughing tires her out, but she said she is feeling a lot better than she did.

Yay!  It's good to hear her sounding a little more like herself.
