Look what the guys at Breaktime are up to!

kathymcmo's picture

It looks like they're not even waiting to have their forum "upgraded." Someone apparently took action and look:

LOL. This isn't the first time they've gone away from Taunton.

But, but, it's SUPPOSED to taste like that!

Then c'mon over, Heather. (post #67821, reply #52 of 54)

Then c'mon over, Heather. There are quite a few CT refugees there and there's even a cooking folder.

The Gardener's have also gone off on their own. Mass migration.

Do they have a destination? I don't go often but wish I did--and I'm sure DD would like to know.

How come they could do that? (post #67821, reply #8 of 54)

How come they could do that? Isn't that a paid site? How does that work?

I think it's free as long as you allow some ads. The gardener's site just has an ad at the top that I didn't even notice at first. If no ads, then it's something like $7/month. This is the gardener's board:

That format apparently makes it hard to attach images or large files

YOu know, I am worried about the Monday photos - I might just change it completely and post them in my own blog instead. I don't know what to do.

this new format makes it very hard to enjoy surfing CT - I realize it sounds like whining, but my eyes hurt, and I don't seem to get the hang of it, as I keep re-reading what I saw yesterday in the middle of sporadic new messages.

I cannot believe I haven't been send to the corner yet in 28 hours! I miss it

Sally, don't you find the photos online anyway? Just copy and paste the URLs of the photos (right-click on the picture, select "properties," use your cursor to highlight and copy the URL), then list them here.

For example:

Sally's Monday photos were easier to view than ever! There is a nifty slideshow feature.

Good for them! Like somebody else said, I think Gretchen, please leave a forwarding address if you all decide to jump ship.
This 'new' format is such a PITA what with scrolling and scrolling and scrolling.....I can easily get lost!

If someone finds a way to do (post #67821, reply #40 of 54)

If someone finds a way to do with CT what they did over at breaktime, please take me with you.

In the meantime this site is now simply too frustrating to visit. End of an era unfortunately. Many fond memories at CT (Sandra and I met here).

Perhaps there will be a beginning of another era over at the site the breaktimers went.

Bye for now.

Maybe they want everyone to leave? Robyn?

This reply is to MadMom. (post #67821, reply #12 of 54)

This reply is to MadMom. Nobody at Taunton be around until Monday, but I really wonder if they do want us to leave. The concentration seems to be on the home pages on the site with blogs and other things. I really wonder.

I never know where I am here, and dislike feeling lost. :(

Marcia, I have so many good (post #67821, reply #13 of 54)

Marcia, I have so many good friends here, have met so many people that I hate to leave. Hopefully, things will improve. I have to join the others who questioned the wisdom of changing things during the holiday season (we're COOKS, for heaven's sake, not gardeners) and the wisdom (?) of making such a drastic change. We've lost everything that was good about the old site and frankly, the only thing I can see that we've gained is the ability to scroll through lots of posts...usually looking for the one or two new ones. I'm getting so sick of reading the same posts over and over.

Nope. I'd hate to see even one member of the community leave. Having said that, it's impossible to make everyone happy. Some people will see the new format as an improvement, some will see it as a deal breaker. Personally, it's my hope that the community will feel it gained more than it lost and hang in there through the transition.

dorcast's picture

I truly don't mean this (post #67821, reply #22 of 54)

I truly don't mean this facetiously, but I don't think many of us see what we have gained. What features do you see as better?
This goes way beyond people being averse to change, or a sloppy transition. This format is difficult to navigate, and is missing what made CT a user friendly place to visit.

edited (I hope) to ask - why the change? and why the choice of this format, when there are so many others that are more manageable?

Marcia's picture

Dorcast, I agree with all (post #67821, reply #24 of 54)

Dorcast, I agree with all that you say and ask about as well. It's early yet, but I don't see these issues being addressed.

I almost hate to say it but the orange doesn't bother me. Other things do, however.

dorcast's picture

The orange doesn't bother me (post #67821, reply #26 of 54)

The orange doesn't bother me either, maybe I'm too busy being annoyed at everything else.
As for the issues not being addressed - I agree. I didn't expect to log in this morning to find all the glitches fixed, but I did expect some explanation or apology from the moderators. Perhaps it's too hard for them to find the comments addressed to them in the madness they've created.
How are you feeling?

Marcia's picture

I'm better, thank you, which (post #67821, reply #44 of 54)

I'm better, thank you, which surprises me, but this illness has been up and down.
As someone mentioned, I'd be happy to pay Taunton a fee for a user-friendly forum, but am not sure that option is possible at this point. But it's quite a miracle that I even saw your post and realized it was to me. That is distressing.

IMO orange isn't a problem (post #67821, reply #27 of 54)

IMO orange isn't a problem but a color preference. The set up of this new forum is a 'problem'. Everytime I log on I hope to see our old forum page! The one that worked that didn't need changing.

AnnL's picture

Can you tell us what we've (post #67821, reply #19 of 54)

Can you tell us what we've gained? And how it outweighs what we've lost? And, can you also tell us if any of the worst problems (being able to go into a thread and see ONLY the New messages; a way to refer back to the message that each message is replying to are my two biggies) can be remedied?

Robyn, you're likely right (post #67821, reply #21 of 54)

Robyn, you're likely right that it's impossible to make everyone happy.
But what we want to know is, will you be able to make anyone happy?
Because so far the new format is batting zero.
