Here is an email making its rounds amongst women. Feel free to email to womensaynopalin@gmail.com per the advice below.

Subject: Women Against Sarah Palin

Friends, compatriots, fellow-lamenters, We are writing to you because of the fury and dread we have felt since the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. We believe that this terrible decision has surpassed mere partisanship, and that it is a dangerous farce-on the part of a pandering and rudderless Presidential candidate-that has a real possibility of becoming fact. Perhaps like us, as American women, you share the fear of what Ms. Palin and her professed beliefs and proven record could lead to for ourselves and for our present or future daughters. To date, she is against sex education, birth control, the pro-choice platform, environmental protection, alternative energy development, freedom of speech (as mayor she wanted to ban books and attempted to fire the librarian who stood against her), gun control, the separation of church and state, and polar bears. To say nothing of her complete lack of real preparation to become the second-most-powerful person on the planet. We want to clarify that we are not against Sarah Palin as a woman, a mother, or, for that matter, a parent of a pregnant teenager, but solely as a rash, incompetent, and all together devastating choice for Vice President. Ms. Palin's political views are in every way a slap in the face to the accomplishments that our mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers so fiercely fought for, and that we've so demonstrably benefited from. First and foremost, Ms. Palin does not represent us. She does not demonstrate or uphold our interests as American women. It is presumed that the inclusion of a woman on the Republican ticket could win over women voters. We want to disagree, publicly.

Therefore, we invite you to reply here < womensaynopalin=< mailto:womensaynopalin@gmail.com > with a short, succinct message about why you, as a woman living in this country, do not support this candidate as second-in-command for our nation. Please include your name (last initial is fine), age, and place of residence. We will post your responses on a blog called 'Women Against Sarah Palin,' which we intend to publicize as widely as possible. Please send us your reply at your earliest convenience-the greater the volume of responses we receive, the stronger our message will be. Thank you for your time and action. VIVA! Sincerely, Ellen Rosten womensaynopalin@gmail.com **PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY! If you send this to 20 women in the next hour, you could be blessed with a country that takes your concerns seriously. Stranger things have happened.

However you feel about Palin I really don't think this board is the place to distribute chain letters.

You are welcome. This is not a chain mail guys. Its not like you have to forward it to 7 people or else bad luck will come your way. Its an opportunity to join other voices in a public way, if you too are dismayed over the choice of Palin.

Sorry to disagree, this is moving from expressing an opinion on what is (mostly) a cooking board to active campaigning, IMO not the way to go.

I do not think this is at all appropriate to this forum, and you may be violating Taunton's Terms of Service.  It is not fair to bring this kind of VERY organized partisan political commentary to this forum. Please desist. I have reported it.

As much as I agree with the sentiment in Florida2's post, I have to agree with those who think it is inappropriate.

If it violates teh TOS of the board, then, by all means, lets delete the thread. My bad. But truly, how is it any different than all of the other political threads on ipke? Please clarify so I do not ignorantly cross the line again!

I think the problem is with posting something which asks readers to reply to another site, or to another web address.  Although I totally agree with you that Palin is an insult to women, I do think the posting was inappropriate.  JMO.

Aha! so, its against the TOS to post another website adress and ask that people respond to it. Is that just for political stuff, or for any stuff. Like, it would be wrong to post a link to another cooking site and ask people to respond to a thread there for exmaple?

Do you know where the TOS are posted? I should probably review them so I don't goof again in the future.

I, personally, would think it would be wrong to ask people to respond to another cooking site, but that's just me.  Now, posting another site and directing people to it is another thing entirely, and that is done often.  I think the TOS are posted when you sign on, but someone else can probably help more with that.

Okay, I clicked on "Cookstalk"at the top of my screen and was able to get the Terms page up. Here is a link to the Terms for Taunton:

I did not see any reference that would disallow this type of post. But maybe, I am not looking in the right place??

I don't see what the issue is.  If the moderators think it's not appropriate, they can delete the thread.  There's no point in us debating whether it is or is not a violation of the terms of service.

I agree Ann. But if its a violation of TOS, I'd like to know what the rule is so I dont do something wrong in the future again. I'd hate to strike out twice and thus risk being banned!!

How do you KNOW who this is?  How do you KNOW what they will do with your email address.  Find another way. It doesn't belong here.

Thank you all for your feedback. I suppose if it doesnt belong here, the mods will delete it or put a note on the thread. If it is okay for it to belong here, I guess the mods will leave it untouched.

One could say that(re email addresses) about leaving one's email address so many places! The "petition" is attached to a large website which has posted more information about the process of trying to organize the voices of women who are not voting for a woman simply because she is a woman etc. It looks prety legit to me. It doesnt require anyone putting their email address on CT.

I have no opinion about whether or not it's appropriate -- I got this in the mail from a friend yesterday and nothing about it triggered alarms for me vis-a-vis its legitimacy. But did you see the Palin interview tonight?  Kinda "deer-in-the headlights" when Charlie brought up the Bush Doctrine.

Being Canadian, I don't really get a say anyway but at the risk of sounding shallow.....I find it hard to take her seriously because of her hair-do!  Anybody know what I mean?

Sorry if I offend any Palin fans, maybe I've just seen one too many episodes of WNTW.

She said she does the hair like that and wears the librarian glasses in an attempt to distract from her looks or something like that.  I guess she's trying to get away from her beauty queen days.

I have to admit that has been something that struck me. I also read this week that she is being instructed as to when and where to wear it up or down. I can remember back quite a few years ago when a friend of mine had extremely long hair and always wore it completely straight hanging well below her shoulders whenever she went on interviews. She was told that it did not look very professional.

I think the letter is rediculous and full of misstatements about Palin and her history.  I'm glad that many of you took a position that this forum is not for this kind of material, even though your opposition was, in my opinion, was misdirected toward her and not the missive.

Which would you like to begin with....I would question her being against sex education, birth control, environmental protection, alternative energy development, freedom of speech (she did not want to ban books), wanted to get rid of the librarian for different reasons, gun control, separation of church and state and polar bears.   If you read the referenced article she is not against Polar Bears...she is pointing out that there is no need to add them to the endangered species list SINCE THEY ARE NOT ENDANGERED.  There are more Polar Bears now that there were 40 years ago and they can only, by law, be hunted by native alaskans...that would be Eskimo's to those of you from West Virginia.

Show me as many references as you can find from reliable sources that the above items are true.  Not WAG's (wild-a$$ guesses), but statements she has made, not your interpretation of what she meant but what she actually said.

Look, I'm not sure Palin is the end all and be all of anything, much less the Republican party, but if any other candidate was treated the way she has been, man or woman, you guys would be raising hell.  Why don't you at least give her a chance.  Is that asking too much.  Is it really so difficult to allow the woman to get up to speed, after all she's only been a nominee for a couple of weeks.

edited to add: "we are not against Sarah Palin as a woman, a mother, or, for that matter, a parent of a pregnant teenager"  Bull Puckey - they are against her because she is a conservative woman, something that many liberals and Democrats simply cannot stand.  After all, who could be so misguided as to be a conservative, and a women no less.

Show me any statements where she has said she is PRO sex education, birth control, gun control, and polar bears.  Actual quotes, please, and prior to her being selected as the Republican VP candidate.

Here's what I've found.  First, from NPR:

On one side of the debate, some oppose providing contraceptive information to teenagers. They just want teens to abstain until they are married.

Gov. Sarah Palin is among that group. In response to a questionnaire during Alaska's gubernatorial race, Palin said, "I am opposed to explicit sex education."

On birth control, it's mixed.  Some say she is against it, even among married couples, and others say she is pro.

I think her position on gun control is clear.

She has opposed listing polar bears as an endangered species.

Look, the Polar Bear is not an endangered species, no matter how you look at it.  The only push to add it to the list is to make it more difficult for oil drilling on the coast of the Beaufort Sea.  That's the only reason.  Check it out, how can it be endangered if there are more now than ever before in our life time
