I'm really disappointed

MadMom's picture

Willie Ray and I drove up to Raleigh today, north Raleigh, that is, to visit the new Costco.  Nice store.  Of course, I went because I was craving all the cookbooks that people have been finding.  Yech.  Virtually nothing.  They did have the good grace to shove the Sandra Lee books under the table, but on top it was various collections (Cooking Light, Southern Living, etc.) and a few of Giada's books.  No Chocolate mag by Taunton, no cookbooks I had been craving, nothing.  I'm ill.  Of course, we still managed to spend over $425, but think how much more I could have spent if they had been properly stocked!

huh. I was just there on Thursday (their 3rd day open) and they had the Dorie Greenspan, the BA,  a TON of WS books, and no Sandra Lee in sight - or I may just have blanked that out. ;-)

I was just ill, because that was my whole purpose for making the trip!  Their cookbook selection was pretty poor.  Of course, they could have been overrun when they first opened and not had time to restock.  I just hate to drive all the way to Durham, particularly with all the construction on the highway, and this was a pretty good shot for us.  Perhaps I should give them another chance, but I was really looking to pick up some books, darnit.  Not that I need any more, of course, LOL.

I have found that their book selections come and go with the wind, sometimes you can walk away with a pile of them, then other times nary a one in sight.

I used to live less than two miles away from a wonderful Costco, which was the Price Club when it opened. It was bliss, and I knew just when they'd get new deliveries of books. Oh, well, I have far too many books and cookbooks, anyhow.

I bought that one a couple of weeks ago at Costco! I never make anything from her books (don't know why) but I spend days reading them, laughing out loud.

This one is actually the first one of hers that I've bought... She kills me... Rudolph Pie which is Venison Pie...that's just evil :)

I borrowed some from the library just for the laughs and then purchased them.

No, I've looked for it at Warden twice and at Richmond Hill last week. No luck. I really don't need another baking book, but I have some birthday book money left, so I'm keeping my options open :)

It's not at Queensway either - they have always had a really good selection of cookbooks, until the last few months.  Now the book table is full of cookbooks that are easy to resist.  <enabling mode on> Use your birthday money for the Dorie book - it's gorgeous, with lots of fab recipes.  Amazon.ca has it for about $35. </mode off>

You are bad!

I haven't ever bought books at Amazon; Chapters online occasionally. The last thing I need is more cookbooks, but I'm sure something will come up at Costco before Xmas.

LOL, that's my problem too. I guess I should submit to the urges and simply invest in bookcases.

If I buy any more bookshelves I am going to have to hang out a sign on my garage door that reads...

'Chapters'...LOL...just bought some really old cookbooks at a sale at the Ontario Historical society this past weekend....ugh.

I picked up the new Jamie Oliver the other night in one of the Ottawa Costcos for $25. They had Nigella (paperback only), but not much else, unless you're interested in three versions of Rachel Ray. I'd really like to see the Dorie Greenspan or some of the others that our American friends seem to get in their Costco, MadMom excepted of course. ;-)

I'm still piffed that I haven't found the Dorie Greenspan book at Costco, but I did go up there the other day and bought the Bon Appetit Cookbook (it was $18.95, and included a free year of BA, so figured I couldn't lose too much) and also bought the NY Times Dessert Cookbook...anyone tried that one?  While I was there, also picked up a couple of magazines.  One was Land o' Lakes best recipes, and it has some interesting ones.  The other one was from various "chefs"; it wasn't until I got it home that I realized that Sandra Lee was included.  I had to immediately search her out and tear out the pages.  Don't think I'll be making too many things from cake mix or purchased cakes.  She is an idiot.  Considered tearing out Paula Deen also (why did I buy this thing?  Because I saw Jacques Pepin, LOL!) but her recipes weren't as gross as usual, so she got to stay.

Yesterday I scored the Barefoot Contessa at Costco. They also had the Bon Appetit, Silver Spoon, Dorie Greenspan, RR, and a ton of Williams Sonomas.

I would really appreciate it.  They had a few more cookbooks at the Raleigh Costco Monday, so perhaps they are coming in.  If you happen to see the FC chocolate issue, I would love that one too.  Give me a good excuse for driving up for lunch or shopping someday, LOL.

They have some nice bookcases at Costco. Got one for James's room in the summer. I think it's solid wood. Weighed a friggin ton.
