Gung Haggis Fat Choy! (post #41848)

to borrow a phrase from an actual restaurant here in Vancouver...
Today at work we celebrated Robbie Burns Day - a couple of days early, but old Robbie wouldn't have minded. Any excuse for a party will do! So we had the whole shebang - a haggis, piped in by members of the world-renowned Simon Fraser Pipe Band, a reading of Robbie Burns's Ode to a Haggis ... and of course a big, steaming hot sack full o' delicious, nutritious oatmeal and offal...washed down with, alas, not single malt, but tepid apple juice.
Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face, Great Chieftan o' the Puddin-race! Aboon them a' ye tak your place, Painch, tripe, or thairm: Weel are ye wordy of a grace As lang's my arm.etc... (I tried twice to attach some pics of the event, but they were huge, so gave up the attempt.)Edited 1/23/2004 9:57:09 PM ET by Sandra

With apple juice! That's obscene! Ginger Ale maybe, but apple juice with a glorious haggis that has been piped in!
Eeeooow!

that's what I thought too - though it's hard to say which is more obscene - apple juice or haggis - so I'm washing the memory down with some Islay single malt.

hmmm...don't know which is more disgusting - haggis, or cockroach races, which I understand are quite popular Down Under....

My understanding is that there is good haggis and awful haggis. My son and I were lucky to get to try the good stuff. Piped in. Apple juice is also good, but not together.

We had our third Robbie Burns dinner Sat. I forgot to order the Haggis so I ended up making one. Actually got the "lights and all" ( heart and lungs of lamb). Boiled it in a bag (pillowcase) and it was declared a great success. I did eat a bit but I can't say I'm a great fan of it. Ours was piped in by DH. Son is taking drumming so maybe next year we'll have an ensemble. And yes, there was lots of Scotch consumed, but not by me.

I was planning on having oatmeal for breakfast, I don't think I want to eat now. I guess I'll stick to a Slimfast cafe mocha shake instead.
