CT- site slow? new look?

Glenys's picture

I'm finding it very slow loading. Mentioning slow, is it me or is there a new look?

I think it's the same as always.

Try refreshing the page or leave and come back to see the difference.

Brutally slow here.  And I'm at work where it's usually way faster than at home.

What powers of observation! There is indeed a whole new look.

Geez Ashley. TRULY rude and disrespectful but, what else is new. Try the ignore button.

I was responding about the speed and no, didn't pay any attention to  colors, etc..  I don't know if there was a change when I first answered. Yes, there is a different look. No, the speed is not slow.

Cool... every time I've come here today something has looked slightly different than the last time. :-)

I was going to say that the red forum header bars were clashing with the plum FC masthead, now they've changed the forum bars to a much more pleasant sage-y green.

Nice job!

Why is it so cold on this beach? And what's taking the bartender so long?

But now I can't get to Knots from CT.

And now I see how I can.

Obviously, Taunton is implementing some site-wide changes. Be patient. It's not always possible to make all the changes behind the scenes, there needs to be some live testing.

The rightmost link on the top line (at least in my browser) says "more..." and takes me to a menu where I can select any of the forums.

Yep, found that. I think it appeared in an interim--sort of what Tracy said.

Another vote against the orange. Not because it's garish or lurid (don't get enough chances to use those two words), but because my browser displays CT on a white background with a very thin typeface and the orange just doesn't have enough contrast. The buttons and menu bars, with sufficiently bold white text on orange background don't bother me as much.

Hello All,
Yes we are still working on the color scheme and you will see more changes before we are finished. The problem with the doing development and design, on the forums, is that we don't have a staging area where we can preview these items before we go live as we do with all our other web sites. We have to "test" on the live site and well sometimes our tests prove to be not so good... :)

More to come on this and expect more changes throughout the day. -Mark

Mark, you have my sympathies as a fellow web person... somehow making on-the-fly layout/design changes on a corporate intranet doesn't generate the same kind of play-by-play commentary that seems to be unavoidable here.  <G>

Yes it does make life interesting sometimes... At least this is only design changes. Try changing functionality on the fly. Oh is that ever fun... -M

Speaking of functionality...

The spell check and attach files features are not working. Or is this just for me?

SYSOP's picture

Hello Schnitzel,
We didn't make any functionality changes so the spell check and attach problems must be due to something else. Did this just happen? If you want shoot me an email at forumhelp@taunton.com we can work through the issues "offline" or we can work through them here so that others might see the resolution.

Questions for you: Attach files, have you made any changes to pop up blockers or security settings recently? When did this stop working?
Spell Check, What browser are you using? This has worked for you before I assume?

-Mark

How are your gardens this year?

Well, here's the story.  Last night's potent T-storm apparently fried my computer's mouse, so I used hubby's computer this morning to log in to Cooks Talk. The problem is with his computer.

I just found an old mouse for mine, the spell check and attach files butttons work fine as usual. So...

I'll check the settings on his computer and hopefully can correct this, otherwise, I will be back for some suggestions.

Thanks!

Gardens are coming along nicely. How about yours?

SYSOP's picture

First thing to check is Pop up blockers, make sure they are off, as that would affect both the spell checker and the attach files.

Gardens are doing very well this season a little slower than normal. Been having fresh lettuce, strawberries, asparugus (minimal amount there)everything else is coming along nicely.

That storm last night looked like a bad one we didn't get much at my house, but it looked like over your way was getting hammered by it.

I found the problem. It was with the security settings in Norton firewall. It's all better now.

This garden season does seem a bit slower than normal. Like you, we've been enjoying lettuces, strawberries, and asparagus... my tomato and pepper plants are just starting to flower.

That storm last night was a doozy, we lost power for several hours.

Strange. I have an active pop up blocker (works too..tells me when it does its job) and have no problem with this site. I am using Firefox 1.5.0.4

Cheers
