Bday dinner: Didn't get duck fries, but

TracyK's picture

I did get this:                                             :-)

bday present! 009 by you.

And it was a TOTAL SURPRISE to me!

He took me out to dinner for my birthday (the restaurant was lovely and quite gourmet, which is odd for Columbia as it tends to be an Applebee's kind of place). It was also half-price bottle of wine night, woo hoo! So we had finished dinner, we're finishing our wine, I'm yammering on about something and he's just sitting there smiling at me.

I finally stop, and he says, all casual-like, "So I have a question for you." To which I think I said, "... OK." And then he pulls out the ring and says "Will you marry me?"

I may have said "Holy sh!t!" but it might have been "Oh my god!" (That's me, ever the genteel lady, LOL.) It's all such a blur... I did remember to say yes at one point though. :-)

Very sneaky -- he meant to propose on our trip but it was the day I was feeling ill, so he decided to wait. And he didn't even get any input on the ring! Didn't ask any of my friends, didn't hint, just went and picked it out all on his own! Though I think he did an excellent job. :-)

Please, though, for all my CT Facebook friends, there are still a number of people we'd like to tell in person, so we're keeping quiet on the Facebook pages for the moment!

All good wishes to you both, Tracy -- I'm surprised for sure, as you gave no hint that I saw. I love the ring -- it's good that you like it.

This is exciting!!!

Thanks, Marcia -- it still seems surreal to me!

We've been dating for almost a year and a half, and we've definitely talked around the subject, just not directly about it. So many of my friends have been so prepared for the proposal that it's hardly been a surprise, so this has been really fun for all of us. My parents are thrilled!

This makes everything much simpler in a lot of ways... but then there's the whole wedding thing which is ever so much more complicated -- though really, so long as I'm married to Tony at the end of the day, the rest is just decoration. :-)

Congratulations! So, is there going to be another TracyFest? (hint, hint... you know we have to meet him just to make sure he's Tracy-worthy, don't you...)

You sound very happy and that is the main thing. Tony must be a great guy or all of your friends would have warned you off long ago.

It's such a nice boon that your parents are happy, too. It's a wonder I married DH since he was about the only man I ever dated whom they really loved. LOL

Are you planning on a large wedding or is it too soon to ask? You sound so happy and that's just wonderful. Weddings are indeed decoration, as someone who had just two friends with us when we married is bound to say. ;-)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful ring, Tony has great taste (and not only in women *g*) So, when will the wedding be? Any plans for the honeymoon yet?

This is what will keep you sane. Trust me.

Congratulations, Tracy! He sounds like a terrific guy--and I'm glad he didn't propose in an Applebys :)

It's a lovely ring. When you're ready, we need to hear all about the wedding plans, bridesmaids' dresses, flowers etc.

Oops...sorry, and thank you.  Well, I think you should use the congratulations for something good today.  How about "good hair-do today?"  "Nice thinking."  "Nice going for sending that on to Tracy."  "Congratulations...you are a winner."

Oh heavens, me too!! LOL. It was actually the perfect excuse to try this place, which had been recommended by a food-loving friend of mine who also lives in Columbia (it's about an hour away from me, more an outer suburb of Baltimore than DC). http://www.victoriagastropub.com/

Hilariously, it moved into a building vacated by Bennigans a couple years ago, and underwent a drastic makeover (it's hard to make a Bennigans not look like a Bennigans, you know?).

The food was great, I had a butternut squash risotto, topped with toasted pecans, microgreens and Humboldt Fog goat cheese, and added bacon-wrapped scallpos (direct result fo the scallpos discussions here). And a delicious bottle of wine. :-)

As for wedding details, it does make it tricky to schedule when the groom already has weddings booked all the way into 2010 (he's a wedding DJ), but we'll figure something out!

I just went back to look at your lovely ring again... *swoon*
I also reread your message about the restaurant. So funny -- I used to live in Columbia and remember that Bennigans! Sounds like MUCH better food now :-)
