Valentine Cakes
Many moons ago I purchased some 4" heart-shaped spring form pans to make some chocolate cakes that I had a recipe for. I never made them and now that I want to make them for Valentines Day I can't find the recipe. Does anyone have that or a similar recipe?
My plan B is to make a flour-less cake using the heart shaped pans, but am not sure how much batter to put in the pans (to allow for rising), and if I should reduce cooking time.
Thanks for any help.

I don't have a chocolate cake (post #69151, reply #1 of 6)
I don't have a chocolate cake recipe here but remember that people have raved about Sue B's chocolate cake (check in the Tried & True recipes). You could also use a really good brownie recipe, I love Alice Medrich's from Bittersweet and doctor it up w/port soaked dried sour cherries & port wine ganache (from an older FC magazine).
Hug your mom, if you are still lucky enough to have one.
Ooh, heart-shaped brownies (post #69151, reply #2 of 6)
Ooh, heart-shaped brownies with port and sour cherry sauce, wow. The Smitten Kitchen gal recently posted about an Alice Medrich brownie recipe from Bittersweet:

The Smitten Kitchen gal could make a cardboard box sound yummy, but I have had very good luck with her recipes. My 5-year-old helped me make these brownies and they were excellent-- delicious cocoa flavor. It's a great recipe for kids too, as there is no dicey melting of chocolate-- only cocoa and lots of butter.
To the original question, yes you probably will have to adjust the baking time. Also, none of the options mentioned is flourless chocolate cake, but the brownies are fairly close! FC has an Abby Dodge recipe:

Another concern is that the cakes might be difficult to unmold from the pans-- maybe a quick trial run this weekend is in order. Any of these recipes (Sue B, brownies, flourless) should freeze well if they turn out perfectly.
Good luck!

Flourless cakes don't (post #69151, reply #4 of 6)
Flourless cakes don't rise.
Make a red velvet cake. You really don't need a special recipe for these pans.
Since they are springform, (post #69151, reply #5 of 6)
Since they are springform, make cheesecakes with raspberry or strawberry sauce.
But, but, it's SUPPOSED to taste like that!
