Perogis
I lived in Pittsburgh for a short period 25 years ago and fell in love with perogis. I haven't seen them on a menu since I left there, and no one in Birmingham has ever heard of perogis. Is there an authentic perogi recipe and why is this wonderful dish a Pittsburgh exclusive?

If "perogis" are the Polish (post #69336, reply #1 of 3)
If "perogis" are the Polish dumplings called pierogies, then they are not exclusive to Pittsburgh at all, but can be found anyplace with a substantial Polish population, such as here in Chicago. If perogis and pierogies are different, then please enlighten me! If they are the same, let me know and we can talk dumplings!

P.S. I was just making pierogies today-- I made a batch of sauerkraut filling and will make dough tomorrow. I had a quart of sauerkraut to use up. We also like potato-cheese filling.
