Is there anything about the new site that you like better than the old one?

I haven't found anything yet, (post #67701, reply #1 of 104)

I haven't found anything yet, mostly my reactions have been divided into "I can probably live with that" and "this really must be changed."
I imagine Taunton is saving money somehow by switching, or at least making more money off the ads, which is an indirect benefit.

No, so far there's nothing I like about this new format. I didn't have a problem before with signing in (if only to read/lurk). Don't like that I cannot navigate from the Gatherings site to Cooks Talk. This format seems to hide so much. I suppose repeated exposure might help me get accustomed, but jeesh, at this time of year I think our stress levels are already topping out.
edited: and now I see that the replies aren't in chronologic order, but listed by whom you (may have mistakenly) replied to. Mental note: I'd better wake up sufficiently before I post.

I can't even figure out how (post #67701, reply #70 of 104)

I can't even figure out how to reply. I don't like much about this new site. I find it very aggravating. I didn't even know that I had a reply to a post done earlier this afternoon. Are we no longer emailed when a reply is posted?

If you had asked this (post #67701, reply #2 of 104)

If you had asked this question in the first five minutes that we shifted to the now-old forum from the even-older forum, you'd have had much the same response.

Again -- I am not finding much to love just now either, but the Taunton folks seem more than willing to listen and make changes.

It's barely launched. We're all going to have to give it time.

Although I agree with the (post #67701, reply #3 of 104)

Although I agree with the spirit of your comment, I also think that insufficient time was spent by Taunton or whomever spearheaded this transition to work out some of the obvious bugs. A site designer should've done an audit of the former format and incorporated the key functionalities into the new format, instead of just throwing it out there knowing it was inadequate. The gripes noted here on CT have certainly been mentioned on the forums that converted before CT did, they should've halted the switchover until they addressed these keys issues. At least that's the way it work in my professional world, you don't throw up a site and then worry about its function. You design for those functions, then do a beta site to test it and get input from key stakeholders. This has been sloppy.

Yes, Yes, Yes to everything you said! I too addressed that issue of insufficient time to prepare, but who knows where my reply is and if I got a reply from my reply!! Reply to Kathy!!!!!

In among the negatives I like that you can see who started the thread, when the last post was made and who made it. That's pretty much it so far.

Sorry I can't reply to (post #67701, reply #5 of 104)

Sorry I can't reply to all-that is one of the problems. Most of the changes that need to be made seem to minor. The search function, the white space are I would think are fairly minor. I don't have a problem with the color and the site does look more au courant. I like seeing people's pictures-if I can figure out how to do it I will post mine. They do need to add the messages already read function. That was good. We can manage with this, We all need to take a deep breath.

All I can say is your timing (post #67701, reply #6 of 104)

All I can say is your timing is bad to say the least. This time of year is all about cooking and having to read new instructions when all you want are answers is irritating!

I agree wholeheartedly with you and all the others who dislike this change. It is perfectly hateful. I suppose I will get used to it eventually, not that I have a choice. But why was the change necessary in the first place?

I was new to the old site so I didn't have time to get used to the quirks. I like that it's easier for me to see who posted, but that's about it. I thought the new site was going to be similar to other forums, but it's far from it. I'm sure that people who were used to the old version are not happy!

I'm finding this format quite cumbersome and not intuitive to use. The grey and orange print is harder to read; the division between the posts is not clear.

I'm feeling like this sounds like whining but the redesign just reminds me of something from years ago that has since been improved to something more like this site used to be.

I liked the old site just fine, but I'll probably adjust to this site in time, mostly because it will still be populated by people I consider friends, who will continue to share information I value. Presumably I'll figure out work-arounds some of the things that bug me -- like I still don't know how to edit my sig line, and I miss (I think!) not getting notifications when somebody replies to me. I do like the avatars, and I wish more of us would post pics in our profiles.

Maybe, maybe not. How will you know they are sharing with YOU! ;o)
I am sure there will be "threats" to leave, just like the last time, but I also foresee a longish accomodation time if people stay to try to get used to this. And less desire to even bother to reply.
It really does give me a headache to read the pages.

When you reply to a post, (post #67701, reply #16 of 104)

When you reply to a post, your new post goes under that post and it seems to be slightly indented. I just responded to Syrah, so I believe this should be indented a bit more than her response to Bruce. We'll see.

I find it very hard to see who the post is from--that tiny orange lettering is impossible. The list of topics on the left has way too much white space, I find it hard to see what folder the topics are in and there doesn't seem to be room for as many topics as there used to be.

So far, there's nothing that I like in here.

SO now we get THE BIG THING we thought we wanted when the last format change--threaded replies. SO if this is the way it is, when we have LONGGGG threads, the most recent reply could be in the middle where we will never scroll to? As Ann says we shall see.
