Is it possible to provide a guide to the new site or do we just muddle around? I did look at Threads yesterday for feedback.

I'm another vote for showing the most recent posts rather than having to scroll through the entire thread, which is very tedious. However, I agree with the poster on the other forum who begged that you not put the most recent posts on top, which is awkward.

Can we search without the message id? I would have absolutely no idea which the ids of posts about a Coconut Cake, for example, so how can I find them?

Looking forward to responses from FC.

Absolutely. We just went live, so I'm getting things set up this very moment. Sit tight.

Do explore, just know that help is on the way!

1. There is nothing to show (post #67626, reply #13 of 86)

1. There is nothing to show who the post is responding to.
2. Why orange? Do not like it.
3. How am I ever going to search for something if there is no number to go by?
4. I don't want to have to keep going down to find what is new, takes way too much time.
5. Obviously you have a lot to work on. So far I am not a fan! Sorry!

sooo - no gripes really - just a question. I went to my profile, and sadly noted that it has my age wrong - I have added a few years since i typed that in. Could not find the place to change it. the edit did everything but. :-) Is this ability something that is coming as you tidy up? Thanks.

I had to edit my age as well. Click on "My Profile" and then "Forum Profile" to find it.

I guess we all complained about the old (now) format when it was changed, but honestly, this one is beyond me.

Me too. And I'm realizing that I don't have the time to explore. I'd like something logical so I can skim when I'm here, not keep clicking to find things. I didn't realize how much I use the search function; if I can't search by word (although that certainly wasn't flawless), I can't see sticking around. Who on earth has any idea of a message id ever? Really, who?

MadMom's picture

I, too, miss the search (post #67626, reply #5 of 86)

I, too, miss the search function, poor as it was. If you know the message ID, why would you need to search? I think I'll be spending less time here.

Thanks for mentioning Search, (post #67626, reply #9 of 86)

Thanks for mentioning Search, Canuck. Here's the deal: At the moment, search will not return any results. It will take a few days to completely index the new system. After the index completes, search will be a lot better than before.

Why would you start the new (post #67626, reply #53 of 86)

Why would you start the new format before everything was in place? Certainty there was no rush! This whole thing is beyond me, and very frustrating! No search, I am not receiving any emails saying that someone has replied to my post,etc.,etc.,etc.!!!! Plus I have no clue as to how to get rid of my signature which I have asked in another post!

Looks like most of the stuff transferred Ok except for a birthday greeting and a question about sausage that I posted just before the old one was taken down. :(
I'm thinking this is going to take a longer time to wade through than it used to. Not good. I will miss the "Unread messages" that I used to rely on to save time. Maybe I just haven't found it yet.

I have to say that it's nice to see what you look like. I'd seen photos of MadMom at fests but now I know you too :)

This cluttered format and hard to navigate and understand is what drove me away from Lynn Rosetto Kasper when she changed to gather.com.
And personally I dislike the pictures. Why can't we at least just have discussion. Pictures could be in the profile. It is just one more distraction when trying to find out if there is a new post/poster.

Dizzy? Hang in there.

I suppose if things get bad we could all just visit the Margarita Cocktails post and start mixing some up. Not a cure for dizziness, for sure, but at least we'll have some fun while we're figuring all the new stuff out.

BTW: I really appreciate all of you out there willing to give the new format a try. New shoes never feel good the first time you wear them. You gotta work them in.

At first glance I don't like (post #67626, reply #15 of 86)

At first glance I don't like it either, but I'm sure once they make adjustments and we all settle in it will be OK.

One thing that may help initally is for everyone with signatures to edit them so they don't take up as much space, that's adding to the clumsy look.

Robyn -- I don't envy your job right now. LOL. Good luck! I notice that there is a right-hand listing of topics/threads on some pages but not others (I don't see it on this page, for example). In fact, there's nothing (no right nav, no top nav, no breadcrumbs) that tells me where I am in the forum right now. It might help people navigate around if that right nav is included on all the pages.

Yes, I'm finding navigating (post #67626, reply #16 of 86)

Yes, I'm finding navigating this page to be quite a challenge. Robyn, give us some clues, please, like, for instance, I'd like to know how many replies there are to a thread, how many are unread, what other threads might I want to stumble across next, or even just a consistent list of folders.

(Also, how do I edit my tag line?)

Hey everyone, See the FAQ (post #67626, reply #23 of 86)

Hey everyone,
See the FAQ page for some initial answers. We're borrowing FineGardening's because their forum launched first, but the info is the same for CooksTalk. It's a good start and we'll just keep adding answers as we get them.

Why is there a limited time (post #67626, reply #84 of 86)

Why is there a limited time for a person to edit a post! sometimes you find something new to add. Also you said it was the say to delete a post (which I find absolutely hilarious--if a post needs deleting the posts following are generally not of a type that need keeping).
Why?

Before you start feeling too (post #67626, reply #20 of 86)

Before you start feeling too bad for me, you should know that I get an invite to all the tastings and recipe tests. They more than make-up for forum duty. Plus, you guys are a great crowd, so there's no hardship there.

Now, back to business. I agree about the signatures. everyone who has one should tighten it up and eliminate all those extra spaces.

The latest topics (and what's new) are listed on the left, actually, and while you're replying to a post, you're right, you won't see them, but once your reply goes out to the world and you're back on your "home" spot, you should see them again.

I see my breadcrumbs right at the top (orange text, and the current spot is in a black type). Is it possible you missed it?

I've got a developer looking into your feedback right now.

Keep it coming,
Robyn

Yum. Tastings. My work would (post #67626, reply #24 of 86)

Yum. Tastings. My work would be so much cooler if there were tastings. :)

I tried to edit my previous post and was told I was not authorized... even though I had already edited a post. Hoping that was a momentary bug!

In the "reply" window, the breadcrumbs only tell me what thread I'm replying to, they don't tell me which folder it's in (for example right now it just says "Home › new layout › Reply to comment", not "Home › Forums › CooksTalk › Feedback on Fine Cooking › new layout (etc)"

Probably not earth-shattering, but it's a little disconcerting to be posting blind... might lead to a lot of misplaced posts.

Also, I was able to delete my old photo in the profile section, but when I try to upload a new one it brings back the old one. Feels very "Groundhog Day". :)

"Before you start feeling too (post #67626, reply #86 of 86)

"Before you start feeling too bad for me, ..."

There you go again. Whom are you talking to/about with this reference? I didn't see any posts saying "I feel bad for you." Maybe I missed it? How would I find it? Is it 100 posts ago?

I think I can discern some kind of slight offset of each successive post, maybe. I'm not sure. I certainly find the new format confusing to follow.
