NEW! Google Custom Search
Two New Features Added
Good morning everyone,
You'll notice I just added two new items to the status update box.
You can now bookmark any post, and it couldn't be easier to do. Simply click the "Bookmark" option. To refer to your bookmarks, click on the "My Bookmarks" link I just added to your Home box. Try it out and let me know if it isn't working properly.
A note on bookmarks: When you create a new post, it will bookmark it automatically so you can go back to it and check for comments. If you don't want to refer back to your post, simply click the "Unbookmark This" option under your post.
One more thing: If you weren't able to enlarge your text box while making a post, you should be able to now. Click and drag your box to expand.
Finally, I appreciate your patience over the holidays and during our crunch to get the latest issue of Fine Cooking (#103) online last week. My apologies to anyone who felt CooksTalk wasn't getting enough attention.
Robyn
Edited to add: I've heard back from a lot of people who are now able to expand their comment boxes. If anyone is still having trouble, let me know.

Can't enlarge my box. IE user.
How will you use the bookmark feature? I kind of know, but if a thread has a new post, and it is of interest to me, I open it. Otherwise, I don't know when I would need a "bookmark", and particularly with needing to actively "do" it.
I'll bookmark this and see if I see another use.
Sorry Robyn, but I can't (post #68851, reply #4 of 54)

Enlarging doesn't work for me either. Time to put it back on the "to fix list."
Sure would be nice if Robyn you could give us a time estimate for when the posts will start being ordering chronologically, and for when you'll do something to improve the readability of the site (black type, more legible accent color etc.) Seems like you must have some idea by now of approximately how long this will take??

Would you mind confirming for me that you use IE as your browser? Thanks.

It works on my IE8. It's not a click and drag the way it usuallyis. There's a little bar at the bottom of the box to pull down on.

I still cannot edit my profile. Still cannot enlarge the text box, Vista/IE8. Personally, I'ld prefer it if you would fix the known bugs (i.e., several us cannot edit our profiles, Biscuit cannot log in, we want to see only the New posts in chronological order...) before adding new features, which we may or may not even find useful.

Thanks for the feedback, Ann. (post #68851, reply #11 of 54)
Thanks for the feedback, Ann. I'm in agreement with you.
Fixing the bugs and adding features are two different animals. Please understand, technical fixes need to be made by our tech team, and I can assure you that they are working through all the known bugs we've logged across all our sites, including the ones that you've mentioned.
Adding features is something I can do as an admin of the forum right now. When I learn about something new that I think might benefit the community, I add it.

Sorry, kathy, I just don't know for sure, so I can't put any dates out there.

How about a unit of measure then? Are we talking weeks? Months? Years? Surely you have some idea by now. Or if you have no idea then we would at least know it will be 6 months or more.
It would be nice to know so we can manage our expectations of when this will be viable again.

My best guess is that over the next few weeks the highest priority issues will be resolved. And, we'll continue chipping away at all the issues as time and resources allow.
When I get specific dates, I'll share them with you.

Aha!! NOW do you have a list of "the highest priority issues" that will be resolved to share with us, just to check to see if they are "our" highest priority issues? Thanks.

Bookmarking. I did find the "bookmark" (I thought it was in MY (I would use "bold" if I had THAT choice)--it is under the original post, I see now.
SO if a thread is 3 pages long (as some of ours on the old board are), and I want to bookmark it, I will have to scroll back through pages to the very beginning to "bookmark" it? Is that convenient? Just wondering if this has been thought through as to its USE by the actual users of the forum and not just because "it can be done" by the techies. There IS a difference.
"...we want to see only the (post #68851, reply #20 of 54)
"...we want to see only the New posts in chronological order..."
This may be convenient for some, but I actually prefer the replies to be associated with the message to which they are responding, as they currently are shown in the forum. Having replies in chronological order may be convenient if you are monitoring the site frequently, but when I am reading through an existing thread, it makes the conversation read like a post-modern novel.
In my ideal forum, there might be a preferences setting for threading (chronological or not). One person's bug is another person's feature.

Pielove says."This may be convenient for some, but I actually prefer the replies to be associated with the message to which they are responding, as they currently are shown in the forum."
But then you have to go through the ENTIRE thread to read various replies, and once you go to the second page, the "new" sticker isn't on the post.
ANd yes, it does read like a post modern novel. But if you could identify (as with a number as we are requesting) the post being replied to, it doesn't.
