I'm floundering, send new life buoy

Glenys's picture

Being an Apple Safari user I understand there's going to be platform style differences, but I don't know what's possible with my Apple or what's the forum style. One thing I don't understand -how to see a direct response to a question, which the numerical identification offered.
Am I missing something?

Why is the POST button replaced with SAVE?

Hi, Glenys The numerical id (post #68406, reply #1 of 22)

Hi, Glenys

The numerical id is indeed missing. It is one of the things that we have identified as being very important and, I think, they are working on it. So far, the only way to see the "direct response" is to click on "permalink" before you click on reply and then copy the url into your message. Unfortunately, one can not reply to the first post, so I could not reply to your question. I do hope that gets fixed too.

We have been told that the "save" button will be changed to a "post" button at some point. If you check the "Forum Status Update" box on the right hand side of the page, you can see what they are working on.

I hope that helps, a wee bit. My life buoy is a bit ragged right now as well. I'm not sure it will last as long as it needs to.

Hey Glenys! What's up? (post #68406, reply #2 of 22)

Hey Glenys! What's up? They are still working on a lot of things, so don't give up yet!

But, but, it's SUPPOSED to taste like that!

I wonder if this is big enough for all of us??

Don't know about the buoy, but it looks like the Titanic is Taunton's idea of a lifeboat, judging from the response(s) we've had to our concerns.

Should we assume that Jason is skippering the Titanic, or just hope someone, anyone, is in charge? Happy Birthday, BTW!

Shoot, don't have anything to wear that's appropriately stylish.

Just wear whatever is comfortable, gather on the bow, and sing "Nearer My God to Thee".

Why can't we reply to an OP? (post #68406, reply #8 of 22)

Why can't we reply to an OP? That should be fixed too.

Glenys, you should be happy to be using Safari on a Mac, we seem to be the only ones who can expand the size of the comment box. LOL

Other than that, the glitches seem to be happening to all.

I was able to expand the reply box when Robyn first mentioned it, but that capability has gone by the wayside. Now, please explain to me why changing "SAVE" to "POST" should take a week.

Maybe changing SAVE to POST (post #68406, reply #10 of 22)

Maybe changing SAVE to POST is not the highest priority?! Just saying...

I'm sure it's not, because most of us have already figured it out, but IMNSHO, it's a 5 minute fix, at the most. Would be nice if we could see something done right.

Changing save to post is in the first tier of changes that they're going to make. I'd give them a little time, they just decided yesterday what the first set of changes will be. I don't expect them to work 7 days a week.

Well, as someone who has had to slog through reams of code to find one, seemingly simple, bit of text to change, I can say that it might not be quite as easy as a 5 minute change. It could be in a configuration file, who knows how much code has to be recompiled. Could be in a dynamic library that they can't easily recompile because other parts of that DLL are currently in a debug state, so it all has to be released at once. Could be that the text definition might be used elsewhere, where they don't want it changed. Seemingly simple things have to be checked for unintended side effects. :-)

"POST" means what it is. Clear and sample. Why use an ambiguous word?

Mireille, my understanding is that Taunton took the Drupal software and used it straight out of the box, as it were. I don't think they did much if any customizing of its structure before they launched it. So I think it's Drupal who came up with the "save" instead of "post" button.

"Save" when the meaning is (post #68406, reply #22 of 22)

"Save" when the meaning is "post" is what happens when engineers build systems for end users without proper guidance. From an engineering perspective, you are "saving" what you wrote. From a user perspective, you are publishing or posting it.

Of all of our complaints about the Drupal forums, this seems to me to be the easiest to live with.
