Toronto-fest again?

Nightrider's picture

Hey folks,

I've been chatting with Rhea via e-mail, and we've been thinking that it might be time for another fest.  I'd love to meet some of the folks here that I don't know yet.  Anyone else interested?

Wrong Sellars, but hey, with a British accent you can get away with all sorts of stuff!

Are you going to be able to visit the Maritimes in your fall visit?

It is very beautiful here and I would love to meet you and Mrs.Ashleyd.

Let me know if you need any tourist type info if you are coming here.

Afraid not, we'll pretty much stay in the Toronto area, give or take a hundred miles. This trip is basically so that DW can go to Niagara Falls, although crossing into the US looks like it might be a nightmare by then, with all the new restrictions.

What new restrictions? The only one I am aware of is that as of Jan 31 Canadians need either a drivers license AND a birth certificate, or a passport.

Would it be any different for you entering directly from the UK?

Cheers,

Peter

Can't find it at the minute, but it involves more API, pictures and all 10 fingerprints and probably more information about your plans in the US. When Brits fly into the US all the API stuff is done before check-in (usually on line for most airlines we use) and you're given your I-94 on the plane. I have no idea how we'll work this if we drive down to Buffalo, I suppose it will just take extra time over and above the normal border waits.

Have you crossed at Niagara Falls/Buffalo before? There really isn't much in the area in terms of foodie items. There are definitely malls, if that's your thing...

The view from the Canadian side of the Falls is better, I think.

Crossed a long, long time ago. We're probably only going to go for the day trip, but DW is set on seeing the falls this year.

The Falls themselves are best from the Canajun side. Perhaps that could be a small field trip.

S.O. would really like to see the Falls. He never managed to stop and look as he travelled back and forth between here and Ohio.

You know, Niagara-on-the-Lake is on the way to Niagara Falls, and they have winery tours, etc. That might be fun, if your schedule allows for it. You could pick up some of our world-famous icewine.

Inn on the Twenty.

Now that'd be a fest!

Oh, that's an interesting-looking place. I assumed first that it was a winery. I have to admit that <shh> I don't drink wine or beer. Can't stand either one. However, a good meal still would convince me to go anywhere.

A colleague took her husband to Inn on the Twenty for a cooking-class weekend for a "significant" birthday. She raved about the whole experience.

I only like one wine, so it's rare for me to have anything other than water with a meal.

The tamarind cocktail I had with my meal at Biryani House when Wolvie was here was a nice rarity.
