September VancouverFest?

shywoodlandcreature's picture

In their world-wide travels Ashley and Jen will finally grace Vancouver with a visit this September, so we were thinking -- any excuse for a fest, right? Ashley and Jen will be staying at the Pacific Palisdades (on Robson Street, for those who know Vancouver; right downtown for those who don't) on the weekend of the 12th and 13th, then moving over to the Crotch Dog Inn for a few days after that. So who's up for a fest - big or small. Or for getting together for dinner Chez Crotch Dog on the following Monday or Tuesday? Ideas? Thoughts? Anyone?

Although I will naturally defer to He Who Has The Fancy Cooking Equipment I suspect that I might be (happily) called upon to do a few "meaty" bits. For those that don't run to Pacific Palisades (we're on a package) there is the funky Sylvia and of course advice on obtaining maximum hotel for minimum cost is always available (although I suspect we'll never beat the $40/night that MadMom got at the Grand Hyatt in Seattle)

You are welcome to play with any and all meaty bits at the Crotch Dog Inn.

Ahem... that would be formerly living meaty bits. We will not allow Ashley to experiment with haunch of Peabody, not even in the interest of demonstrating sous vide.

Oh dear. That did not come out right did it? Well, you know what I mean. :-)

Great timing, we`re off for two weeks starting on the 23rd, so earlier in September is perfect.

Hey, any chance you could make the trip north?

Great! So it looks like we've got the Vancouver contingent, plus Sharon. Anyone else from out of town? I'd be happy to try my hand at Priceline, or make reservations at the Sylvia or elsewhere.

Is anybody else from the Seattle area thinking of driving up, Ouzo? If I could rideshare and find a cheap place?

I'd love to meet any and all.

Well, the Sylvia is cheap. Funky, but with a certain charm -- and it's a block away from Stanley Park, and directly across the street from English Bay. It also has, in my opinion, one of the best hotel bars in the city - at least in terms of location.

I have fond memories of the Sylvia bar.  And yes, the rooms are funky, and tiny, but they do have a certain charm.

If someone else wants to drive up from here too I could see being able to. I could drive and my truck seats 5.

Okay, official 'go' endorsed by DH. I'm not sure I'll be able to make it to the 13th (Colin's birthday), but a day or so afterwards would be perfect. Always depending on which flights I can get. The Sylvia sounds like the perfect place.

Wonderful! This should be fun. We'll have to start planning what to do/where to eat/how to keep the Ashleys entertained...

What, you've got something against steamed hot dogs? (Come on up - we'd be delighted to see Your Meanness again. And I promise, no boiled meat will be on the menu).

Ah yes, but it would be boiled "sous-vide" which might add a certain charm and would go so well with the 24 hour vegetables to produce the esteemed English "Boiled beef and carrots". I cannot understand how you could decline the opportunity to savour such an iconic dish.

I will make a note on the calendar.  Mr.Ouzo and I would be delighted to join....and carpool with anyone from Seattle.  For us, it will probably just be the weekend.
