Ottawa-fest? (post #56927)

OK, itinerary slowly coming together...looks like Ottawa for the weekend of the 17-19. Who's up for it? (and who'd like to organize it?LOL) I've been away too long to really help, but a picnic might be a nice idea, provided the weather is good - Gatineaus - I have fond memories of Pink Lake, or somewhere else?)

I can most likely come, but since I'm in London I'm no help for the planning end of things.

I hope you are talking about July! I'd be happy to organize it. A picnic up in the Gatineau would be a wonderful thing.

How much of your time do you want me to plan? It will be the last weekend of my vacation and I will be recovered from the Jazz festival by then.

I'm so excited!

I've realized that I didn't ask if it was ok to invite oneself.

I think inviting yourself is de rigueur.LOL However, there is a good possibility that I may not make it this year - life's got in the way (again!). I'll definitely let you guys know the minutes I know myself. :-)

I have been holed up in my office, working -- and only just logged on to see this thread!  Evelyn -- come back to Ottawa!!  If this happens, what month are we talking about?  I'm up for an Ottawa-fest!  (Only not July 17-19 -- we will be...in Italy!!)

ok, well let me know when you decide on a date and I will see if I can come.  All depends on DH's health.

unfortunately, it's not happening now - at least this year. My husband came back from the village yesterday with my mother in law. Apparently, my father in law left a whole lot of debts and no savings which my mother in law and DH now incur as the inheritors. It will be a difficult couple of years for us, but we'll manage.

Dear Evelyn:
That is a real shame on so many levels. We will manage without you this summer, barely, but I know this means some difficult times and choices for you and your family for a while. You are in my thoughts and I look forward to meeting you when I can. In the meantime, I hope you can continue to be on line with us!

being online is not an option...it is my lifeline!LOL I sincerely hope that the trip can be realized...I have a little 'stash' put aside for a rainy day, but it may be pouring here soon, and that stash may come to be used in something less fun, but more necessary. We were very saddened to find that my fil had nothing put aside all this time. It is very difficult for my mil to realize she has land titles but positively no cash with which to pay even immediate bills - let alone bills he has left behind. It will happen, just not right now. :-)

Evelyn, that is so sad.  Some people just don't save for a rainy day, then when they pass on, their families are the ones who suffer.  I'm sorry that you and your family and your MIL are going through this on top of the grieving.

Thanks, MM. It did knock the wind out of us - especially as we'd been paying for his medical since he was diagnosed with the cancer last October...we thought we'd eventually get the money back...didn't see this coming at all.

I'm so sorry, Evelyn. The debts must have come as a shock, and it's a real shame, too. Of course you'll manage, but it's too bad.

so sorry to hear about this unexpected change in your life.  My thoughts are with you and I hope you will find other ways to spend joyful moments as a family that don't require money.

we are fortunate to live in Greece where a jolly good time can be had at the beach - and the nearest is only 5 minutes away. ;-)

Damn, that sucks! Ah well - life does have a way of throwing curve balls at you when you're not looking. Maybe we should just take the 'fest to you...

Well, see if you had just clarified this from the beginning I would've been the first to volunteer we come see you and bring you some joy and good food!!! LOL

I am so jealous...I have never been to Greece...but one day...when I grow up (and no it is not too late yet) I will go there!

honey - I've never grown up. Hope I never do. Not growing up does not mean being immature. It means never losing a child-like joie-de-vivre. My bones may ache, but my funny bone always wins out. :-)
