Oh, I didn't realize that. Well, I came up with that date by stabbing a pin at the calendar - maybe somebody will chime in with a date they prefer.

I'm not going to New York. We have a cruise in Nov otherwise we'd be there in a New York minute!
Maybe we can have a consolation Toronto fest for those who can't/aren't going south? Or a later weekend-our cruise in not until late Nov.

I would be in for a Toronto-fest as well. My schedule is a little iffy, since I'm going to be full-time in the hospital with on-call shifts, but if I'm free, I'll be in.

Let's see how many people are interested, then we can start planning date and itinerary. How far in advance do you know your sked?

I get my schedule for Oct/Nov on Sept.25. You may have to go ahead and plan a date, and I'll make it if I can.

Sorry for the delay; October 14 likely works for me. Wolvie is mentioning coming too and suggests Susar. I can't find anything on it at the moment, but I suspect reservations would have to happen soon.
What's happening to the New York fest? Wolvie is also supposed to be there. I'm getting a little concerned seeing as I already have my flights and my pre-paid hotel.

Further up in the thread she mentioned that she may miss it.
Deejeh suggested setting up a Toronto-fest in October and coincidentally chose the same weekend. as NY I don't think anyone from TO was heading to NY so it didn't make a difference to us. From what I read ages ago about NY there were a lot of people going. Has that changed? I hope not; it sounded like a lot of fun.

Except some people going to NY might also have wanted to go to TO. Competing Fests is not a good idea.
Always take a good look at what you're about to eat. It's not so important to know what it is, but it's critical to know what it was.

If there was someone who wanted to attend the New York fest and also wanted to come to Toronto, I'm sure she or he would have mentioned it. So far, Wolvie has expressed interest in a Toronto fest, but also said she had decided against NYC. Any of the Toronto folks who've said they'd be interested in a fest here weren't planning on attending the NY fest. So, there doesn't appear to be any competition.

As Canadians, we would never want to cause conflict. We're too nice to offend others.
If people would like to come to Toronto, I'm sure we could move the fest. It never occured to me that this was a conflict. DJ, do we want to offer this up the following weekend if international CTers want to attend?
I'm good either weekend, so if it's going to keep peace in the family ;), why don't we move the date? It would be fun to meet non-local CTers, and if changing the date would accomplish that, then I'm all for it.

Fine with me, but why not leave it open? I'd love to see out-of-towners, but if none are coming, why change it. Let's wait a few days and see who can make either weekend...

well someone just let me know which weekend it is. ;-) I've been dying to get to a Susur Lee restaurant for years, and have not gotten back to Toronto to do it. My bad, I know ...

Is this a go? I need to confirm dates for other things and I'd like to avoid conflicts if I can. Right now I'm good to go for either date- just need to know which one.

Yikes! I don't know, but I think so. The way we left it was that if any CTers who wanted to hit the NY fest also wanted to come to Toronto, we'd move the date, but I don't think there's anyone who wants to do both. Wolvie indicated she'd come to Toronto on the weekend of the 14th, the original date, and Canuck also said she was good for that date. Canuck's away at the moment, I think, but I'm sure she'll weigh in when she gets back. I believe Rhea said she was up for the 14th, but ehBeth is going to be in New York. Nightrider won't know if she's free for that date until the end of September, and we haven't heard from Fitzcindy or any of the other local folk. So, it looks like it might not be a large group, but I don't see that as a problem.
Wolvie wants to eat at one of Susur Lee's restaurants - Wolvie, if you're reading this, which one did you have in mnd? Both of them are only open for dinner on Saturday nights. If we're going to do that, we should figure it out soon, since I suspect we'll need to make reservations right away. I've just been checking out his website and either restaurant looks like it would be a neat experience.
What does everyone think?

deejah - I'm flexible. Whatever works best for the rest of the attendees. Just confirm the dates with Canuck and such so I can book my flight. :-)

I'd love to attend this fest. The weekend of the 20th is best for me but if it is the 14th, then I should be able to make dinner at least. I've been wanting to go to Susur for a very long time. I'm sure we will have a great time!
Just out of curiosity, what's involved in this Toronto Fest? Can you give us newbies some information? Is it open to anyone who wants to come? What do you do and where do you go?
Someone who's been around longer than me can no doubt give you the history of the various fests, but here's the short version. Many of the posters live reasonably close to each other, so groups get together in various locations. There are Southern California fests, there was the midwest fest, which took place in Wisconsin (?) last year, there was Tracyfest (named after TracyK) which happened in Washington DC, and so on. Over the past couple of years, quite a number of people from around Toronto have started posting to CT, so last spring, a group got together for a one-day fest. I wasn't able to attend, so can only tell you that everybody reported that they had a good time. It was a smallish group, I believe, and they started out at Thuet, then went to Kensington and finished up by having lunch at Mildred Pierce.
There's absolutely nothing formal about a fest. It's organized by consensus, and anybody who's interested in meeting their fellow CTers for some fun and food is welcome. So far, the only thing that's been mentioned for the Toronto fest is dinner at one of Susur Lee's restaurants. Wolvie, who says she's been wanting to eat Susur's food for years, is going to fly in. Other than Wolvie, at the moment we're all local. I imagine the itinerary will depend on the size of the group, and what we're all interested in doing and seeing.
So, if you want to participate, just jump in :)

Good, except you left out the Vancouverfests and the Meaniefests (in Seattle) which were well attended by CTers from all over. The MidWest fest was in Madison, and in addition to the locals, had mulch52 from Alabama, Chef Robert and Nana C from Boston, and yours truly from Texas.
We have said more than one time that we are a family, with all the dysfunctional attributes that implies, and it only makes sense that we get together occasionally to see one another.

Are you planning on attending the NY fest? Or could we persuade you to come across the border and have some fun with us?

Hmmmm...sure is tempting. I've made most of the fests, but probably won't go to NY this time. I've got to make a trip to Vancouver sometime this fall, but that won't be at the time of the NY fest, since my buddies there are coming to NY, I think. Never been to Toronto. Where are people staying? Wolvie will probably be staying at the Marriott, I would assume, if there is one available. Anyone else coming from out of town?

No, not at the moment. This fest started out as a consolation-fest (so named by Mo), for those folks who weren't going to NY, which takes place the same weekend. I haven't really got a handle on who-all is coming, but other than Wolvie and Mo, who's driving in from London (I think), which is about 1 1/2 hours from Toronto, all the folks who've expressed interest are from Toronto. Oh - except for Mitzie, who asked about it - her profile indicates she's from Hamilton, which is about an hour from here. But, I don't know if she's planning on coming.
We haven't set any sort of plans yet, except there's talk about dinner at one of Susur Lee's restaurants. But if you've never been to Toronto, there's lots to do - food-related and otherwise. It'd be fun if you came - you could rebuke sin in person ;)
