Meaniefest - 2

MEANCHEF's picture

Is there enough interest and when in the Fall of 2003 shall we have it?

Discuss.

Why wait until Fall? How about a late spring or early summer Meaniefest? Or VancouverFest?

plenty of interest from me!

Fall is sure a nice time - maybe not so close to Hallows this year, so jillsifer can make it.

so, maybe the beginning or middle of October?

Italy, schmitely. What could possible be more important than a Meaniefest, second edition. Just kidding.

I would vote for any date. It would be REALLY nice if we could determine one soon. End of sept, begining of oct has a certain appeal.

Cheers,

Peter

Okay, I'll raise my glass of Brunello in a toast to all of you on October 4... from my chair overlooking the fig and almond trees...

Count me in! I'll probably stay with a random cousin, unless I can convince my boss to schedule a trip to the Ninth Circuit the week before.

I want to make sure I go to Mario Battali's Dad's sandwich shop -- I always forget when I'm up there.

The other night I ate at a real family restaurant. Every table had an argument going.

Somebody put a stop payment on my reality check!

Just curious--do you have a site that shows how frequently it has rained on those days over the last decade or so?  I actually like the rain, BTW.

Kai - it's SEATTLE!!!!!  It's always going to be raining!

First part of October is good for me, too.  I'm going to try to come - not sure if I'm going to make it, but I'm going to try.  If DH is still around and a miracle occurs, I'll be there -

Well, I know one week in the 60's it didn't rain in Portland :-)

Seattle rain is so wimpy--I'd like some thunder and lightning.

Then you should come up to visit us sometime between mid november and mid feb. We could go to the west coast of Vancouver Island (Tofino is the name of the town) for a few days and soak in the winter storms pounding on the shoreline. Savage weather, big breakers, big scenery and everything that goes with it. Very spectacular.

Cheers,

Peter

During the weekend it doesn't rain? When a great art exhibit will be visiting? When a cooking class is happening?

Fall would be great. I'm sure I'll have a job by then. LOL

But, but, its SUPPOSED to taste like that!

OK, time to initiate the newbie....

What is a "meaniefest"?

What do people do at a "meaniefest"?

What does "CT" stand for in "CT get-togethers"?

As an aside, my husband and I are making our first trek out to Tofino the second weekend in March...I'm really looking forward to it.  Any restaurant recommendations from anyone?

"fests" are the name tag what we stick onto to any gathering of folks from CooksTalk. sometimes it's just one day, sometimes they span a few days.

we've had Vancouverfest, Wolviefest, Meaniefest...

Meaniefest took place in Seattle, where Mean Chef lives, and MeanieFest sounded way cooler than Seattlefest.

well, in Seattle, we ate a lot, went to great restaurants, ate, shopped at Pike's Market, talked, ate, drank...did I mention we ate? Tracy K and I hiked to a tattoo parlour, where she had her navel pierced.

the "CT" stands for "Cooks Talk"

RuthAnn, you forgot all the gossip, scandal, debachery, police, riots and other fun stuff. ;-) But you did mention the important stuff....eating, drinking, shopping, eating, (did I mention food?) And we were able to get really good rates at a wonderful hotel. So how about we do this all again next week.

Cheers,

Peter

and let us not forget that someone went to Meaniefest and was never heard from again.(insert dramatic music) Oh nutcakes, we hardly knew ya. Oh wait, here's an idea.....new this Fall on CBS.....CSI.Meaniefest...The hunt for nutcakes.....If CBS bites on this we could fund madmom's next shopping spree...I'll start skimming off my grocery $$ allotment so I can make the big dinner.

Yeahhh, fund MadMom's shopping spree...that'll be the day!  Besides, you're just blowing smoke...you were going to be there last time, and you didn't show.  Maybe you popped in and kidnapped nutcakes?  Hmmmm...the plot thickens.

....but was it thickened with some kind of additive....like say....JELLO!!!!!! What's that sound, is it the thundering hooves(hoofs?) of the Jello Sheriff. Wait, another spinoff....Law and Order: Jello Sheriff....we are going to be rolling in the dough!!!!

While we're at it...how about Fear Factor?  or Survivor?  Those both seem to come pretty close to describing the experiences of a group of CT-ers gathering in Seattle!  How about the Jello sheriff being forced to eat...gag...a Jello salad!  And Mean being force-fed deviled eggs?  Ohhhhmygawd, the ratings!

Things are going to get a lot worse before they get worse.

Much as I love you all I may have to pass on MeanieFest 2 in early October. I'll be in Nevada in late October and can't really get two long trips so close together. Mind you Jello salad holds no terrors, might even enjoy it, just don't think it's decent food.

You mean it could be "Meanfest-Las Vegas"? We could all go as Elvis impersonators. I'd pay big money that. Or maybe "CTer's and loathing in Las Vegas"...."Viva CTer's"..
On a personal note I've found that lack of sleep really increases my flow of randomly connected thoughts.
