Atlanta mini-fest!

Risottogirl's picture

We had one last night with me, meanchef, jerseygirl and MER! What fun! And meanchef took some pictures!

We went to an interesting place - the Watershed - in Decatur for the supposedly best fried chicken ever.  It was really good but not fabulous, but what do I know about fried chicken, I'm a damn Yankee? Wine list was very good and somewhat eclectic. I know this will disappoint meanchef, but my favorite thing was the pimento cheese :)

Let me say first, that meanchef is so NOT mean (sorry, secret is out LOL) and jerseygirl is fun and amazingly knowledgeable about the area, pointing out good places to eat the whole way- who knew this about Atlanta? Not moi! She can switch back and forth rapidly between a Jersey accent and a full-on drawl, so cute!! And as a couple? Adorable! Just goes to show you that things that are meant to be, somehow find a way!!

Now MER? Cute as a button and taller than I expected too! Not shy either, so it was a lively dinner. We almost got to meet the baby too, but that didn't work out :(

It was so much fun to meet you, Mean Chef and Jerseygirl. We had a wonderful dinner despite my late arrival sans bebe. I will insist that you will meet her on your next visit, somehow! While Anna lately has been very sweet tempered, she was screaming that evening and I just couldn't bring her to a restaurant like that. I am sure that she was just reacting to my stress during the evening rush hour. oh well. Of course, I had forgotten how loud Watershed is, so maybe it would have worked out.

so... the fried chicken? I wouldn't call it the best in the city, but it was really quite good. The hang up was that the fried chicken really didn't have a batter crust, but was lightly dusted with flour and pan fried, not deep fried with a crispy batter. However, the chicken meat itself was delish. The best tasting chicken meat that I have had in a while. it was for lack of a better word, very "chicken-y". lol. so much chicken tastes so very bland. this was very good.

Also, I had the chocolate cake for dessert. It was very dense with a wonderful thick ganache frosting- also very dense and lots of whipped cream. yum... I had a latte, which I needed, but I probably should have had it with some sweet milk, per JG's suggestion. lol...

i love cake.

Last year I went to JCT kitchen and was impressed with the fried chicken. Honestly, it was a year ago and I can't remember the details, but I would like to know what not-so-Mean Chef would think about it. We will have to meet there sometime...

Obviously everyone needs to come to Charlotte and get chicken from the Chicken Coop. It is regularly 5 deep at the counter. Best you'll ever eat.

That's a nice long visit and includes a weekend that I'm kidless. I suspect you might have to endure another minifest? I seem to remember Ouzo mentioning something earlier?

You're a good friend to do that. I feel for that lady; that's a lot to handle all at once.
