Atlanta mini-fest!

Risottogirl's picture

We had one last night with me, meanchef, jerseygirl and MER! What fun! And meanchef took some pictures!

We went to an interesting place - the Watershed - in Decatur for the supposedly best fried chicken ever.  It was really good but not fabulous, but what do I know about fried chicken, I'm a damn Yankee? Wine list was very good and somewhat eclectic. I know this will disappoint meanchef, but my favorite thing was the pimento cheese :)

Let me say first, that meanchef is so NOT mean (sorry, secret is out LOL) and jerseygirl is fun and amazingly knowledgeable about the area, pointing out good places to eat the whole way- who knew this about Atlanta? Not moi! She can switch back and forth rapidly between a Jersey accent and a full-on drawl, so cute!! And as a couple? Adorable! Just goes to show you that things that are meant to be, somehow find a way!!

Now MER? Cute as a button and taller than I expected too! Not shy either, so it was a lively dinner. We almost got to meet the baby too, but that didn't work out :(

I was trying to use copies of the photos on snapfish.  I guess my technique is off. LOL

So I attached files from my computer.  I hope they worked.

That's Jersey Girl on the left in the last picture, but don't know who is who in the earlier ones.

Great to see you both!

I'd guessed Mer correctly, but couldn't do it with the other two. Not enough clues, LOL! Thanks both of you.

Cannot imagine who's slowing you down.  Hopefully, the next time I will be able to be there and also that your beautiful baby will be calmer and can join us, LOL!

Sounds great! We aren't that far (in Texas terms anyway!) Any chance you could come down next time RG visits?

If this darn knee ever gets to the point where I can make a 4-hour drive (or a one hour drive, followed by a one hour plane ride), I will definitely plan on it.

Although the company was fabulous - it was really great to meet Mer and Risottogirl - the fried chicken left something to be desired.  I have been in search of the ultimate fried chicken ever since I moved to the South.  However, the best I have eaten is still in Seattle.

We did have a wonderful time and plan to do it again when Risottogirl returns next month.

The fried chicken we had in Charlotte was pretty darn good...or had they run out by the time you got there?  I know some people didn't get it.

I agree it was pretty darn good, but not nirvana.

Which places have you tried in Atlanta? I haven't made a true study of the subject, but have had it in a few different restaurants, so am curious about your evaluation.

For fried chicken nirvana, my belief is that you have to make it at home. I've never had fried chicken out that was as good as homemade and I'm talking homemade with different recipes, too.

Now that I think about it, I haven't had too much fried chicken in restaurants, and that might have something to do with my opinion.

While home fried chicken is good, I have definitely had it "out" that I LOVED!!

My return trip looks to be a bit more rural that previously anticipated.

Commerce, Georgia.

Where in heck is THAT??? It sounds a little boony-ish to me :(

Not far out of Atlanta. There is some good outlet shopping in that area. Athens and UGA isn't far.  about a quarter of the way up to Charlotte!!
