a thank you and a thought

CanadianCook's picture

I first of all want to thank people who have patiently and politely answered my questions. As someone who's fairly new to cooking and fairly young (won't say exactly, but under 30) I look forward to the day when I can help people with questions. Thanks so much everyone - I'm so glad I found this discussion board.

Hey CC, welcome aboard! The world needs more Canadians, especially Canadians who cook. Please fill out your profile - at least where you live. And if you're anywhere near the Wet Coast, contact us. We get together fairly regularly out here, and some new blood is always welcome. (Don't worry - we won't make you sit at the kiddies' table. At least not for long.)

CC is in the East, Toronto I think, which means they're possibly emerging a larger contingent than here in Lotus Land. We might have to rally the troops and stoke our collective enthusiasm.

You know we're bigger and better here in TO--and also so polite! We also have a couple of young 'uns now (with Nightrider), so we have the future sewn up, unless you can increase your numbers....

We might be vying with the Wet Coast as far as size is concerned, but in terms of socializing, they're very far ahead, I fear.  Now that summer's almost over (sob), we should maybe try for another get-together.

Things are pretty crazy for me in terms of work until the third week of September. However, that doesn't mean you have to work around me. I'd like to meet everyone again, as well as those who couldn't make it to our first get-together, but understand if others want to get together sooner.

Maybe if we started talking about it now, we could put something together for October.  I'll start a thread in the fest folder.

Hey you!

Please keep me posted on any Toronto gatherings...as much as I would love to get to Vancouver I think my bank account will combust if I spend any more money on anything that evolves around the price of oil and gas!

I am in the North end but will happily drive to meet you guys! p.s. just discovered a great little gem of a store in Kitchener called Vincenzo's...they carry the most amazing items, many of which I have seen on the pages of this most wonderful mag, and their cheese selection was just  breathtaking!

Was really hard trying to NOT spend my entire savings in there!

Deejeh has started a thread in the Get-Togethers folder if you are interested in October.

Mmm, Vincenzo's sounds terrific. I'm rarely out that way, but that's probably a good thing from your description :)

Hi Rhea, I grew up in Kitchener and Vincenzo's is quite the institution there. It was originally on Belmont Ave., but I heard it moved to a bigger location.

Oh my God!...I can't even imagine how small it was before!!!! Let's just say if one has hips and turns around quickly, a rack will surely be sent to the ground...LOL...Can't remember what the street is, but it is a tiny little place.

We used to to to the Charcoal Steak Housein Kitchener all the time when i was growing up...they had the best garlic bread I have ever tasted!!! Darn, now I am hungry!!!

Charcoal also had (and still does) these incredible massive pork ribs for apps. You would order one rib they were so big. But SOOOO good. My mom used to order pigtails at charcoal...mmmm....pig....we should have T.O. fest at Vincenzo's and Charcoal and go to the St. Jacob's market....mmmm...pig....

My, aren't you nice? I am a long time home cook, but I know a few things, and most people on the board know far more. It's an ecletic group, so whatever you ask, you'll be likely to get some sort of answer. Sometimes a spirted debate, too, but it's never uninteresting.

Questions always seem to be welcome (I've been around a while, but am not an early poster), and I know everybody's pleased when the younger generation is interested in cooking. We need more young people with cooking questions.
