Hey Carolina -

Have you ever been over to Snappy Lunch in Mt. Airy? BTW - How are you doing after all that rain - I feel awful everyday seeing the pictures of the damage, etc., being there must be many many times worse...

Wol: Never have been to Snappy's, but certainly have heard about it. It's on my "some-day-before-I-die" list.

Thanks for thinking about the Old North State. It's going to be a long, long time before Eastern North Carolina recovers from Floyd. Even then, things will never be the same. Here it is a full two weeks after the hurricane and the flood waters haven't fully receded. What else will we find when they finally do? :(

Gosh, Carolina, I'm so sorry you're going through all that. I hope you did not suffer much damage personally and all your loved ones and their property are okay. Take care of yourself. Thinking of you, and wishing all the best.

Oh, Nancy, I sincerely do appreciate your concern, but as I have said before, we are too far inland to have been personally effected by Floyd.
b But
"being a Tarheel born and a Tarheel bred", what effects North Carolina, effects me.

BTW, as far as I know, we have yet to hear from Andrea, who was living on the Outer Banks. Now,
i that
does
worry me.

Ah, guess I missed that post. Glad to hear you are where you are. Even being a Californian I feel for everyone who suffered through what we've been seeing on our news. Let's hope Andrea checks in soon so we know she's okay.

By the way, I was just reading an old FC last night and there was a recipe I was tempted to try with GRITS! Basically, it's a baked sweet potato pudding that they describe as like a spoon bread. It's got sweet potato, nutmeg, cinnamon, maple syrup eggs, etc. and the grits are made with cream, butter, garlic, cayene. etc. It's all mixed together w/ egg yolk, and whipped whites & baked. It can be made ahead & is better the next day, so I'm thinking of trying it as a different side dish this year. Did you try it last year when it was published?

Let me see if I have this right. First you make a sweet potato spoon bread thing which contains maple syrup and spices. Then you mix it together with grits which have been cooked with garlic, cayenne and......OH, RALPH! Sorry, Nancy, but that sounds dreadful. What were they thinking?

Carolina -

glad to hear you're okay! That's the general area that I'm planning to move to in a couple of years. Any other recommendations??

Wolv: Which general area? Mount Airy or Eastern NC?

Mt. Airy, possibly more central, maybe Smoky Mtn way...
