40th anniversary: baking report (post #64115)

in

It was my parents 40th anniversary last Thursday, and the next pictures are my baking/chocolate contributions for the day. THere's 'thank you' cookies, truffles, cake, and pie. I spent the last twee weks making all kinds of chocolate (choc. covered nougat, marshmallows, caramel, chocolate hearts, dark choc. mint truffles, milks choc. champagne truffles, white choc. tiramisu truffles) and the last three days baking cookies, cakes and pie. My feet hurt, but mom and dad were thrilled and that's all that counts :o). Hope you enjoy the pics!

You outdid yourself, Helene. Can I adopt you?

No fair that only Jean gets to adopt you.
We must have an adoption rotation.

ONE day

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with parsley sauce, goat cheese garlic mashed potatoes, Galena Cellars Niagra grape wine & Pie Boss's apple crumble topped with Ruth & Phil's sour cream/cinnamon ice cream.

Thanks for the sweet words Karen :o). Thanks to my parents I have always been able to explore and learn the things I have an interest in, it's only fair I thank them for that by using my skills.

WOW.  Please tell us in detail about the cake?  Never seen anything like it.  Beautiful.  Fantastic, all of them.  Wow.

Thanks Sue :o).

The cake is three different cakes, all wrapped in a 'collar' of marshmallow fondant (1 lb of marshmallows, 2 TB water, 2 lbs powdered sugar). On the outside are flowers made out of the same fondant (actually, I made these weeks ago, to make sure they were dry and sturdy enough to keep their shape). I attached the flowers with royal icing.

I had kind of a hard time getting the fondant rolled out thin enough, it was a pretty thick layer that was hard to cut (and who really likes to eat fondant anyway) so I peeled it off after a while before cutting the cake further. It looks good, but isn't very practical in any way.

Don't know if there are other specifics you need?

Oh wow! Beautiful Helena. I love the style of the cake and love the cookies. I think it's wonderful that you were able to do this for your parents - beautiful desserts made with love.
