1st Wedding Cake - Done!!! (post #65171)

in

I just wanted to do a quick post to let you know that I did complete the wedding cake and the bridge/groom loved it. All sorts of things went right and wrong and I will do a much more detailed post with all my questions and more pictures that I took throughout the process. I've got a few small baking projects to do the next couple of days but then I will sit down and go through all of my notes and sort through the pictures to post.

Mostly wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped me here on the forum with my first wedding cake. I have to admit when I was assembling the cake on Friday there was one point when I said - what on earth am I doing saying I can make a wedding cake - but by Sunday afternoon I was wondering if I might do it again.

I've attached one picture of the finished cake - with the fresh flowers just put on. The cake went back in the fridge and when they brought it out later they spread rose petals all around the base and they said it looked very nice. When the bride saw the cake she kept saying - it looks just like the picture - she was very happy according to the wedding planner and that is what really mattered. Even though I didn't think it looked like the inspiration picture the bride had sent me ;o)

That is gorgeous! Nice job. If the bride is happy, that's all that really matters.

But you know we want to hear all the details when you have time...

I wish I had time right now but I've got my notes because I knew I'd be busy early this week. I'm also glad to hear you want the details because I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in all the things that made me go - what should I be doing or not doing right now.

Of course I look at the picture and see all the things I don't like but I guess that is to be expected....

OK, off to finish baking a Sticky Toffee Pudding birthday cake.....

I really do like hearing what went wrong and how it was fixed; I learn a lot more. I've done one wedding cake and was hugely stressed (who wouldn't be?).

Beautiful!  Since I'm one of those who is just doing good to put icing on a cake, I'm always in awe of someone who creates something lovely.

Wow!  It's gorgeous, and I'm sure it tasted great.  I talked my mom into making my wedding cake; she had a lot of "what on earth am I doing" moments too, but it turned out beautifully.  And it was the best-tasting wedding cake I've ever had.

What if there were no hypothetical questions?

Congratulations on a beautiful job!

I would enjoy reading the full "post mortem" when you have time for it.

Maybe we'll find direction, around some corner, where it's been waiting to meet us.

It came out beatifully, all that practice you did really paid off. Look forward to hearing all the details, even though I will never attempt such a feat, I've really enjoyed your threads on this cake.
