Sean, this cannot be easier to maintain than the other board! After clicking around enough to get myself good and lost, I realize that the only way I can see all the new messages is to visit all the hyperlinks! Ouch!!!!!

I prefer the chronological, running, all encompassing board where I can just scroll up and down and read everything that everyone has to say.

This just requires too much clicking and searching - and if you ever read the messages on the old board, you would see that we answered questions by everyone about a host of cooking-related subjects. Also, if someone brought up a subject that I found interesting (but it was not something I would readily ask a question about - possibly because the subject was tucked in the back of my mind), it was a bit of serendipity. This way, if I don't visit all the hyperlinks, I may miss out on subject matter that would not normally cross my path.

I don't want to sound ungrateful and I know you worked hard on this...but is it absolutely out of the question to FIX the other board instead of nuking it completely??

Thanks anyway bud...and Merry Christmas.

Sean,

I know this is the third time I have pu in my two bits, but I agree with Chiffonade. We really appreciate ALL the hard work but...

Anyways, HELLO everybody! It's good to be back. I hope you all have a grat Christmas and a Happy New Year! I'm getting ready to go snowboarding for the better part of the next week in the good ol' Rockies and I'm so excited I just can't hide it. I'm not even going cook one single thing! It's club house all the way, baby! Best wishes to everyone and all your families too!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Cleaver

How much time will it take? I'm spending too much time here now, trying to keep up with all the threads. I am wondering how long I will stick around, to be honest. I liked the old "see everything at a glance--it's pink, I've read it" format a LOT better.

Jean- I agree with you- this is unorganized, how do you know if you've read all the messages???? Do you have to remember- gee, there were 18 messages in one folder yesterday??? Another website I use to quit smoking has the previous format we had here & you would not beleave the number of people who use it- So why can't we go back? People are not going to respond to this. WHERE IS NIHON NO COOK???????????
Sean is probably doing his best- perhaps the budget won't allow a bigger server??? Perhaps he was told this is a better format??? (NOT). Maybe taunton press should listen to the people who use this site. Are the higher ups aware of all the dissatisfaction?????????

Thanks for letting me vent- Merry Happy Holidays!!

Chiffonade,

I agree with the points you made, but the new format does have some great features. I especially like setting my own preferences and the edit feature. Maybe we should give Sean a chance to fine tune the engine before we give up and jump ship.

Adele,

You can set your preferences to show you all the new messages since your last visit. Then you can bookmark the page and that will be your starting point whenever you sign on. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Hi Carolina- Thanks! I now have my preferences listed as you suggested and it is easier. Another glitch though- since we can't see all the threads, as before, you have to remember what folder you are responding to! I will now officially stop complaining!
Have a wonderful holiday-

Are you kidding? Me? Jump ship? NEVER!!!! I may not agree with the road map but the destination is great and I will not stop coming to this site - even if I get terribly lost on the way.

:) I don't know about anyone else, but I suffered from Cook's Talk WITHDRAWAL while Sean was busily bringing us into the 20th century.

In any case, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, Chanukkah, Kwanza, Festivus or whatever you will be celebrating - and remember - Don't drink and drive.

Merry Ho Ho!!

Chiffonade,

Like you, I had "Cook's Talk Withdrawal". I even went so far as to e-mail Sean and accuse him of being a sadist! How could he do that to us!? Talk about cold turkey!! :-) Glad to hear you're not going anywhere, as I was starting to feel like the red-headed step-child.

Adele,

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you can't tell to which thread you are responding. If you don't mind, please, enlighten this dummy. Sometimes I feel like I still have training wheels on my training wheels! Thanks.

My two cents,

I like the new system. Way to go, Sean.

Sorry, Adele, they got this thing up and running just about the time the hubby and I were headed back to the US for the holidays. No office computer = no discussion on the internet until my super-wired mother let me borrow her connection . . . couldn't wait to see what Sean had come up with to replace the old system. Geez, if I'd know it was going to be this complicated, I wouldn't have gotten addicted to the site in the first place.

No cooking questions for now, as ice storms and power outages have limited recreational cooking time.

Since this thing now seems to put our email address on things (haven't had time to read all the directions yet), I have to add the following: "The views expressed above do not reflect those of PPG Industries or its affiliates." Personally, I'd like to add that since Big Brother is watching, please don't send me email messages directly.

My two fav cooking sites both changed their formats about the same time during the stressful holiday season! And both are different, and still have some bugs, but I'll crunch a bit of protein to get to the soup of it all...I imagine some or most of my posts will begin with "WHOOPS!" for a while at both places...hehe

Kai,

Would you mind sharing your favorite cooking sites with us?

Thanks,

Hi Carolina!

Well, this one is a new fav, but the one I originally got hooked on a couple years ago is Ichef (Internet Chef) (http://www.Ichef.com) There are some real characters there, too. I also visit http://www.webfoodpros.com; and, this addy keeps changing, but it was, at last hookup, http://www.soar.berkeley.edu/recipes (soar stands for Searchable Online Recipe Archive--sometimes I have to go to a search engine to get it to connect). There is another one, virtualquincy.com (I think) that has links to like 300+ cooking sites--I think you have to go through a loop or two to get to that aspect of it...sorry, I have about 10 million bookmarks--unorganized--or I'd give you the exact addy.

Oh, I love this EDIT feature! You go to virtualquincy.com, click Recreation, scroll and there is Food and Recipes option...

See you around :)
